Lindsey Treon Lyons came to Dickinson in 2011 and has helped the Center for Sustainabiility Education receive national attention, especially for embedding sustainability across the curriculum. She enjoys working at the intersection of sustainability with education abroad, equity & inclusion and civic engagement. In her tenure at Dickinson, Lindsey has overseen many initiatives that have helped Dickinson secure recognition as a #1 Sierra Magazine Cool School, Princeton Review Green Honor Roll institution and helped Dickinson obtain a Gold Rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). She frequently consults with other colleges and universities about sustainability curriculum and faculty development for sustainability. After completing her B.S. in biology from Lynchburg College (2001) and a M.S. in environmental education from Southern Oregon University (2005), Lindsey served as a professor of environmental studies at Wilson College and as director of various non-profit education and conservation organizations. Her graduate research focused on the reproductive biology and management of the endangered Devil's Hole pupfish, a model in desert fish conservation. As a certified K-12 teacher, outdoor school creator, former community extension agent for Oregon State University and experiential education advocate, Lindsey understands that education is key to a sustainable future.


Shane Kaplan

Shane Kaplan joined the Center for Sustainability Education in 2026 as Assistant Director after serving as Farm to School Program Manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Shane brings more than two decades of experience in experiential education, nonprofit leadership, and youth workforce development. He is a co-founder of The LEAF Project, a central Pennsylvania-based nonprofit that engages youth in sustainable agriculture and food systems leadership. During his ten years with LEAF as Curriculum and Grants Director, Shane helped build programs serving youth interns and local school students, secured more than $2 million in grant funding, and developed hands-on learning opportunities connecting young people to sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and career exploration. 

Shane holds a master’s degree in special education from Shippensburg University, and BA in Outdoor Education from the University of New Hampshire. Earlier in his career, he worked as a classroom teacher and later as Educational Director at Yellow Breeches Educational Center, designing experiential curriculum and supporting educators across multiple campuses. At Dickinson, he looks forward to collaborating with faculty, students, and community partners to further advance sustainability education. 


Sumaiya Quayum

Sumaiya started at Dickinson College in 2017. Prior to joining the Center for Sustainability Education, she worked as a Staff Accountant at a global publishing house. She also worked as an Assistant Manager in an audit and accountancy firm for four years in Bangladesh. While working in the audit firm, she also served as a lecturer and trainer in an accounting education institute. Sumaiya received her BSc. (Hons.) in Applied Accounting degree from Oxford Brookes University and Certified Accounting Technician certificate from Sunway University, Malaysia.
