The Volunteer Portal is where outreach lists, email templates, and engagement tracking live. Alumni are 4–5x more likely to respond to a fellow alum than to the college directly—the portal is what makes that peer-to-peer outreach easy. Portal trouble or a general question? Christine Artz is the contact — see Staff Liaisons.

Dickinson accepts gifts in a variety of ways, so donors can select what works best for them! Gifts can also be directed to specific areas.
A Dickinson tradition honoring alumni who give year after year, however small the gift. Loyalty, not size, is the point—a great story to share when a classmate asks why their gift "matters" at any amount.
For classmates celebrating their 45th reunion or beyond, planned gifts are celebrated as part of their Reunion Year Class Gift goals. Bequests, IRA gifts, and other planned giving options are an easy way for loyal classmates to make a meaningful impact.
Recurring gifts are open to any classmate to set up, and can be updated or adjusted at any time. If a donor is in a reunion cycle, the remaining balance counts toward their class gift goal until their next reunion—and if the gift ends before then, that full amount still counts toward the class gift for up to five years.
LYBUNT: Donors who gave Last Year But Unfortunately Not This year.
SYBUNT: Donors who gave Some Year But Unfortunately Not This year. "Some" refers to any year more than one year out.
The Dickinson Fund: Supports annual costs to offset tuition dollars. Giving to "the Full Dickinson Experience" provides critical support for nearly every aspect of the student experience.
Participation: The percentage of alumni with active records who make a gift during the fiscal year.
Calendar Year: January 1 to December 31. Some donors prefer to organize their giving around the calendar year, which is why we draw attention to December 31.
Fiscal Year: Dickinson's fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. You can think of the fiscal year as corresponding to the academic year.
Endowment: A permanent fund that helps ensure Dickinson's financial stability, flexibility, and autonomy. It is composed of hundreds of restricted and unrestricted individual endowments. The earnings support Dickinson's programs and initiatives, including scholarships, faculty support, internships, and research fellowships, in perpetuity.
Stay in the loop on everything happening at Dickinson, and share it with classmates. Forwarding a story is one of the easiest, lowest-pressure ways to reconnect—no ask required, just something worth reading.
Held each June, Alumni Weekend is Dickinson's signature event of the year. Explore past weekend coverage, find your class reunion page, dig into FAQs and more.
Each fall, Homecoming & Family Weekend brings together alumni and parents for a weekend full of academic and affinity receptions, Red Devil athletic and alumni contests and tailgates, cultural events and live performances.

By Raymond C. Jones ’70, Class Agent
After our 55th reunion, we had a committee discussion about how best to maintain class engagement between reunions. We were facing two challenges in particular.
Was this a trend? Should we get an earlier start ginning up enthusiasm for the 60th?
The updates that we do get make it clear that our classmates are still very interesting people. (Hey! We're baby boomers! How could we NOT be interesting?) We just needed a way to encourage more people to communicate.
The college offered to support anything we wanted to do. So, we gathered a triumvirate of volunteers to try some new approaches.
I've now sent out two newsletters (here's a link to the July newsletter). We've gotten a LOT of compliments, and an impressive number of folks have now submitted updates WITHOUT having to be strong-armed!
The college's alumni volunteer portal has been a big help. It provides all the personal contact info we need, which at this point is mainly current email addresses. Also, thanks to the portal, our newsletter can be sent to all classmates at the push of a button.
One thing that converted me from a "prospective volunteer" to a "willing volunteer" was a somewhat troubling statistic about readership.
“The average email message dispatched by the College will be opened by approximately 30% of its recipients. Emails sent by a classmate get opened at the rate of 70% or better!”
Some class agents use the portal to assist with fundraising efforts. That's obviously important, although our primary mission as class of '70 volunteers is to keep classmates engaged in the life of the college and informed about how and what their college friends are doing.
To summarize, the alumni portal is an easy-to-use tool that has any number of valuable applications. I personally am a Luddite when it comes to technology, but the alumni staff has been extremely generous in helping me learn to use the portal. What's not to like?
