How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has prepared me for life after graduation by giving me countless opportunities to grow as a leader, thinker and global citizen. Through roles such as president of the Asian & Asian American Collective, vice president of finance and marketing for Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc., co-founding the Hell Raisers spirit group and serving as a resident advisor during both my sophomore and senior years, I’ve developed confidence, communication skills and the ability to lead and support others. Dickinson also gave me the incredible opportunity to study abroad for my entire junior year in Taipei, Taiwan, and Bologna, Italy. These experiences expanded my worldview, pushed me out of my comfort zone and shaped me into a more adaptable and open-minded individual. Beyond leadership and global experiences, Dickinson’s support systems—from the Popel Shaw Center for Race & Ethnicity and Residence Life & Housing to the Career Center—have played a huge role in my journey. I’ve felt supported every step of the way, from organizing multicultural events to connecting with alumni who helped me land internships. All of these experiences have given me a strong foundation to confidently take on life after Dickinson.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson’s liberal-arts education has prepared me for life after graduation by helping me develop a well-rounded perspective that goes beyond just business knowledge. As an international business & management major, I’ve been able to connect what I’ve learned in economics, political science and even humanities classes to real-world global challenges, which I believe is essential for any career today. The ability to think critically, communicate clearly and approach problems from multiple angles has been a huge asset. Beyond academics, Dickinson’s emphasis on community and collaboration pushed me to build meaningful connections—both with peers and alumni. Through networking events, internships and talking with alums in industries I’m passionate about, I’ve gained valuable insights and mentorship that helped me shape my postgrad path. Ultimately, Dickinson has taught me how to be adaptable, globally minded and thoughtful in the way I navigate both my career and life more broadly.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

One of the most defining aspects of my time at Dickinson has been the tight-knit community. It’s rare to find a place where everyone from students to faculty to staff genuinely cares about each other. Whether it was on the football field, in the classroom or just walking across campus, I always felt like I belonged to something bigger than myself.

Major: international business & management
Employer: OneStream Software
Job title: associate consultant

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Outside of my major, one of my most defining moments was within the Octals a capella group. I had the opportunity to be both the music director (two years) and the president (one year), both of which provided me with fantastic leadership experience, and it genuinely made me who I am today. Aside from that, within my major, taking "Profiles in Leadership" with Senior Lecturer in International Business & Management Steve Riccio was also a very defining experience for me. It was a class that gave me opportunities to exercise leadership skills immediately after each meeting, it taught me to really reflect on my own actions and behaviors, it helped me solidify my own personal values and it helped me to become a better leader overall. I took this class last semester, and I'm still continuing to see the benefits today. I wish I could have taken the class a second time.

Dickinson has prepared me for life after graduation by encouraging a global and interdisciplinary perspective. My study abroad experience broadened my worldview and deepened my understanding of international financial markets and diverse cultures. Additionally, Dickinson’s liberal arts curriculum allowed me to explore courses outside my major, which expanded my thinking and helped me develop as a more well-rounded individual.
