One of the most defining aspects of my time at Dickinson has been the tight-knit community. It’s rare to find a place where everyone from students to faculty to staff genuinely cares about each other. Whether it was on the football field, in the classroom or just walking across campus, I always felt like I belonged to something bigger than myself.

Alex Watzman
Hometown: Westport, Connecticut
Major: international business & management
Employer: OneStream Software
Job title: associate consultant
What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?
Outside of my major, one of my most defining moments was within the Octals a capella group. I had the opportunity to be both the music director (two years) and the president (one year), both of which provided me with fantastic leadership experience, and it genuinely made me who I am today. Aside from that, within my major, taking "Profiles in Leadership" with
Senior Lecturer in International Business & Management Steve Riccio was also a very defining experience for me. It was a class that gave me opportunities to exercise leadership skills immediately after each meeting, it taught me to really reflect on my own actions and behaviors, it helped me solidify my own personal values and it helped me to become a better leader overall. I took this class last semester, and I'm still continuing to see the benefits today. I wish I could have taken the class a second time.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?
Dickinson has prepared me for life after graduation by encouraging a global and interdisciplinary perspective. My
study abroad experience broadened my worldview and deepened my understanding of international financial markets and diverse cultures. Additionally, Dickinson’s
liberal arts curriculum allowed me to explore courses outside my major, which expanded my thinking and helped me develop as a more well-rounded individual. One of my favorite experiences was taking introductory
Chinese language classes, which challenged me and sparked a deeper interest in cross-cultural communication.
