Community and Competition

Shane Mundorf '25

Student Snapshot: Shane Mundorf ’25

During his first two years at Dickinson, student-athlete Shane Mundorf ’25 made the Dean’s List, served as a tour guide, earned Centennial Conference honors, and was accepted into a competitive internship in Southern California, hosted by Mark ’71 and Harriet Marcus Lehman ’72. Below, he discusses why he chose Dickinson, his favorite class so far and more.

Hometown:

Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Major:

International business & management, with a minor in economics.

Clubs and organizations:

Men’s Soccer and Liberty Caps Society (tour guide).

Honors/scholarships/awards:

Dean’s List and Centennial Conference Honor Roll.

Best thing about my Dickinson experience so far:

The best part about my Dickinson experience so far has been the strong relationships I have been able to build with my peers and professors. It’s such a tight-knit community, where everyone wants to see you grow and find success.

Favorite place on campus:

The library.

On choosing Dickinson:

I chose Dickinson because I wanted a college where I could continue my athletic career, while being in an environment where I was also challenged academically. Dickinson was the perfect place for me to fill both of those needs. Also, the extensive study-abroad opportunities really set Dickinson apart from other liberal-arts colleges.

Favorite book:

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.

Favorite movie/show/podcast:

The Dark Knight/Game of Thrones.

Favorite class:

My favorite class at Dickinson so far was my Public Speaking class with Professor of Classical Studies Christopher Francese. Before taking this class, I was not the best public speaker. I would sway while I talked, and I would struggle to make good eye contact with the audience. After taking Public Speaking, I was able to give a five-minute speech to a class without a script. It really helped me gain confidence in my presentation skills, which is a vital to have for any career I end up pursuing.

If I could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, it would be …

… Drew Brees.

About my internship:

This summer I’m completing a product-marketing internship at Horizon Brands in Costa Mesa, California. The special part of this internship opportunity is that it is offered by Mark Lehman, who graduated from Dickinson in 1971. Mark is on the board of trustees at Dickinson, and every year he offers an internship position at Horizon Brands to a Dickinson student. Not only does he offer an internship, but he also offers full room and board to the student so that they do not have to worry about living expenses. I am grateful to Mark for extending this amazing opportunity to me, and to Dickinson for building such a strong alumni network.
