Claire Burnet, Environmental Studies Major

Claire is an Environmental Studies Major and Educational Studies Minor hailing from Asheville, North Carolina. She is passionate about environmental justice, outdoor education, and commuClaire Burnet Dickinsonnity-based climate solutions. 

Claire’s education is shaped by a wide range of disciplines; including psychology, public health, history, philosophy, and the natural sciences. During her time at Dickinson, she served as an Outdoor Education Coordinator for Campus Recreation, Trips Manager for Outing Club, a DANA Research Assistant in the Environmental Studies Department, and an EcoRep. She completed an EcoLeague exchange at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine in spring of her sophomore year. In spring of her junior year she is participating in a Mosaic course on just energy transitions involving field work in Germany. She is also conducting independent studies on climate education and critical pedagogy. 

Outside of Dickinson, Claire has worked as an educator in Costa Rica, Perú, California, and Maine. Experiences in environmental, outdoor, and bilingual education have shaped her belief in the transformative power of education. Claire is also a passionate environmental activist and has volunteered with groups like Sunrise Movement. Whether traveling abroad, organizing for climate action, or leading young people through the wilderness, she is driven by a deep love of learning and the natural world. 

Claire is honored to have been chosen as a 2022 Baird Sustainability Fellow and grateful for the opportunity to improve outdoor equity and environmental sustainability in Carlisle. She is excited to continue pursuing opportunities that work towards a more just, sustainable future.
