Jackie Greger, Baird Sustainability Fellows

Education for three semesters of her college career, where she was able to bring together her passions for writing and storytelling, environmental justice, and sustainability. She has also served on the President’s Commission on Environmental Sustainability and the Environmental Studies Majors’ Committee. Her first year, she participated in a sustainability and social justice focused service trip to Oahu, Hawaii, where she assisted in environmental restoration efforts. In the Summer of 2021, Jackie participated in the Dickinson in Iceland study abroad program, where she was able to learn about sustainability and climate change in a country at the frontlines in the arctic, as well as the role culture can play in environmental messaging.

Outside of Dickinson, Jackie has experience in local environmental advocacy and education on behalf of her home and watershed at the New Jersey shore facing pollution and sea level rise. She interned at the non-profit Save Barnegat Bay for two summers, in which she assisted in drafting climate responsive lesson plans as a part of a place-based environmental curriculum.

Jackie is honored to have been chosen as a 2022 Baird Sustainability Fellow, and is excited to learn from her peer’s diverse perspectives and experiences. In the future, she hopes to work to bridge the communication gap between scientific jargon and abstract ideas about climate change to make environmental issues personal, and use storytelling to inspire action.
