Lilly Zeitlin, 2021 Baird Sustainability FellowBAIRD E-PORTFOLIO

Lilly Zeitlin is an Economics and Sociology double major, with a minor in Spanish. She is focusing on Sustainable Development as a central theme of her studies. Lilly’s commitment to sustainable initiatives began through her involvement with Dickinson’s Community Engagement Fellows (CEF) program, uniting students passionate about civic involvement and connecting with the Carlisle community. Through CEF, Lilly interned, for three years, at the Central PA Conservancy, a local land trust, helping to preserve the unique natural features of the region. Additionally, Lilly spent her final year on campus, working at the Dickinson College Farm, deepening her understanding of the local food system and the intricacies of food production.

In the spring of her sophomore year, Lilly studied in Ecuador and Argentina, learning about each countries’ development journey, biodiversity, and cultural history. In the fall of her junior year, Lilly studied in Jaipur, India, taking courses that centered on Sustainable Development and Social Change. While in India, Lilly conducted a month-long independent research project, studying the impacts of urban and industrial development on a rural horticultural community in Northern India. This experience motivated Lilly to pursue honors in Economics, conducting a research project to analyze the impacts of urbanization on smaller-scale farmers in Central PA. Lilly is eager to spend her final semester working with her innovative and dynamic peers as part of the Baird Colloquium.
