Madison Zegeer, Physics Major and Mathematics Minor

Madison Zegeer is a Physics major and Mathematics minor from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was drawn to Dickinson because of the school’s commitment to sustainability and its global perspective. Madison’s passion for sustainability began in high school where she started an environmental club to educate and promote sustainability on campus.
Madison worked with Inspire - a clean energy technology B-Corporation- engaging, educating, and enrolling future members to gain access to clean energy and accelerate the world toward a net-zero carbon future. Madison spent the second semester of her junior year abroad at the University of Otago located on New Zealand’s South Island where she had the opportunity to explore New Zealand’s actions towards renewable energy. There, she was able to apply fluid dynamics and energy management to renewable energy systems. Madison attributes her study abroad experience as one that gave her a direction for a future career path.
On Dickinson’s campus, Madison works as a physics tutor and teaching assistant as well as a sports statistician for Women’s Volleyball. She is also an active member of Women’s Club Volleyball and Kappa Alpha Theta, where she previously served as a new member educator. Madison is currently working on a publication with Professor Hans Pfister which focuses on fluid dynamics as an analogous learning tool for mathematical concepts.
After graduation, she plans on pursuing a Master of Engineering Studies with a focus in Renewable Energy at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. She is excited to work alongside the Baird Sustainability Fellows and learn from their perspectives and experiences. In a globalizing world of limited resources and unlimited ingenuity, she believes it is integral to work with science and humanities to meet the sustainability challenges of the future.
