2021 Baird Sustainability Fellows

Sara Soba, Environmental Science and Civil Engineering Majors

Sara Soba Baird Sustainability Fellow

BAIRD E-PORTFOLIO

Sara is an Environmental Science major (Engineering Track) from Atlanta, Georgia. During her time at Dickinson, she has served as an Outdoor Education Coordinator for Campus Recreation and as a Teaching Assistant in the Environmental Science Department.

Sara’s studies have shown her that sustainability extends beyond the realm of environmental science and into fields such as economics, archaeology, art, and English (to name only a few). In the fall of her junior year, she studied abroad at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she obtained a valuable global perspective on sustainability in a country where environmental stewardship is an incredibly high priority. These educational experiences have helped Sara cultivate a unique, holistic understanding of sustainability.

Outside of academics, Sara is heavily involved in the Outing Club, serving on the executive board since her sophomore year and as the president during her senior year. Through the Outing Club, she has learned the importance of experiential learning and genuine human connections that can be fostered through the outdoors. Sara is passionate about increasing equity in the outdoors and has worked to make the Outing Club a space where people of all backgrounds and experiences feel welcomed.

Sara is excited to work with the other Baird Fellows to discuss sustainability from different perspectives. Her dream is to work in urban design to create beautiful, functional spaces that further all realms of sustainability - environmental, social, and economic.
