2020 Baird Sustainability Fellow

Lee Carter, Economics & Policy Management

BAIRD E-PORTFOLIO

Lee Carter is a double major studying both economics and policy management. Her passions include sustainable development and responsible conservation policy.

While studying abroad with the Sea Education Association, Lee worked as crew onboard a research vessel in order to study one the largest and most remote marine protected areas in the world, the Phoenix Islands Protected Area (PIPA). During that expedition, she developed a policy brief for the PIPA Trust and its international partners. That expedition later inspired her to conduct a semester long research project on potential policy responses to a predicted climate refugee crisis. In her second semester abroad, Lee also conducted hands on research for the Seychelles National Parks Authority while working as a certified research diver specializing in Indo-Pacific corals.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Lee is an avid rock climber and scuba-diver who loves being outdoors. She even has a personal goal to visit every national park in the United States. Lee has worked as a rock wall monitor, a community advisor, a community service coordinator, and an office assistant at Dickinson. Her ultimate goal is to work in policy development and advocacy in order to create a more just and sustainable world.
