Sam Lavine, History Major and Political Science Minor

BAIRD E-PORTFOLIO

Sam Lavine, Class of 2022, is a History major with a Political Science minor. Originally from Howard County, Maryland, Sam grew up with a desire to help build a more just world.

Sam Lavine Baird Sustainability Fellow

On campus, Sam has been involved in numerous clubs and programs, including student senate, moot court, the Alpha Lambda Delta executive board, and the club soccer team. Sam decided that he wanted to pursue a career in sustainability when he worked on Carlisle’s climate action plan during his sophomore year. Climate action planning involves policymaking that makes communities more equitable, less demanding on the environment, and more resilient to climate change.

Sam has continued climate action planning for Cumberland County and Dickinson College. These experiences had enabled him to become more intertwined with different local communities as a Dickinsonian. Sam also helped launch Carlisle Sunrise, an activist group that aims to generate support for policies that promote environmental justice.
