Student Snapshot: Joshua Whittemore '25
Joshua Whittemore ’25 has dreamed of becoming a lawyer since he was 8 years old. The valedictorian of his high school class, he chose Dickinson because of the college’s strong law & policy program, and now he’s a double major in law & policy and economics. This summer, he's an intern in the Harrisburg attorney general’s office.

Best thing about my Dickinson experience:
I have to say the most enjoyable and important experience I have had at Dickinson is meeting my friends. Being surrounded by welcoming and interesting individuals who show me different perspectives has caused me to grow as a person and as a student. I know that my college experience would not be anywhere close to the same if I had not met these people.
Favorite book:
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
Favorite movie/show/podcast:
I love to watch the NFL.
On choosing Dickinson:
I have been interested in the legal system of the United States since I was 8 years old. When deciding which college I wanted to attend, I knew that I wanted somewhere with a specialty in a pre-law program. Dickinson’s unique law & policy major was exactly what I was looking for. The curriculum and the small class sizes help me to learn and foster my interest in the field of law.

The Quarry Trellis.
Favorite class:
My favorite class out of my first four semesters is The American Presidency. The class, taught by Associate Professor of Political Science David O’Connell, examines how the role of the president has changed in shape, power and size throughout American history. Professor O’Connell taught with such enthusiasm that made me want to pay attention. He even told us so many times that it would be “the best hour and 15 minutes of our days” that I almost believed him. If any student has any interest in American government, I emphatically recommend the course.
As I kid, I wanted to be …

About my internship:
This summer I’m interning in the Harrisburg attorney general’s office. I hope to learn more about the innerworkings of the United States judicial system and home in on exactly what kind of law I want to pursue.
Most important thing I’ve learned so far:
How to properly find and utilize sources to support a paper or argument.
