How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

I received a well-rounded global education that won't bind me completely down with student debt, a massive blessing that opens up so many opportunities. While I found the majority of my internships outside of Dickinson's network, the internship with alum Mark Lehman '71  was an incredible opportunity one would only receive at a school like Dickinson and speaks highly of the strong alum network. When searching for jobs, Annie Kondas at the Career Center helped me really narrow in on what I should be doing to be proactive and find the best fit for me. I appreciate all of her work and that of the Career Center. Dickinson also equipped me with some great friendships and relationships I hope to carry with me throughout life. I also realized at Dickinson how much I value a global education and want to pursue a global business career.

Dickinson has given me relationships I will never forget. During my time there, I was able to connect with faculty members in a way I never thought I would, and I was shown the importance of friendship when going through challenging times in my life. It has allowed me to lean on my friends and my connections and how to ask for help when I need it, a skill that will serve me for the rest of my life.

The program I will be participating in has a reputation for being extremely competitive. I am excited to show off my work ethic and my passion for success. I look forward to living in Boston and seeing how my world changes outside the Dickinson bubble.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

My success on the equestrian team has been incredibly rewarding to me. In my junior year, I beat out top riders at Penn State to earn first place at our regional competition. Serving as the captain for two years allowed my leadership capabilities to come to life as we had four flawless horse shows and our team was the most competitive we had been in years. Additionally, I was the vice president of Delta Nu which allowed me to experience service in a new way. Creating new philanthropy events that strayed from our usual tradition resulted in us raising the most money for Safe Harbour in the last decade.

Internship Experience

I worked for both Habitat for Humanity and National Development (a real estate development company) as marketing interns the summer following my junior year at Dickinson. At Habitat, I was tasked with cleaning up their social media platforms and providing a written purpose for each platform to the marketing associate. Additionally, I created emails that were sent to publicize their annual gala and auction fundraiser. At National, I was responsible for collecting data from our competitors, used Photoshop and other software to format images for social media and the websites for each property.

Additionally, the autonomy given to students afforded me the room to explore new interests and hone skills in areas in which I already expressed a deep passion.

Developing these skills early in my career will greatly benefit me in the years to come.

I want to grow my technical skills in sales, but also as an individual to continue to become my best self. Furthermore, the program I am entering offers a lot of mentorships which I will find beneficial. As a Varsity athlete at school, I have had a coach to go talk to. My manager in the real world will become my new "coach" in some sense.

I think there are a lot of defining moments for my Dickinson experience. I think it is hard to state all of them. I made amazing friends that will last a lifetime. Winplus, Costa Mesa, Calif. : Human Resources internship - I found this internship through Handshake my summer going into junior year. This is one of the Board of Trustee's companies, Mark Lehman '71. Mark and Harriet hosted me in California during this 7-week internship. They really showed me the importance of giving back to the Dickinson community once I graduate. At this internship, I learned more about human resources in the real world. I created a 30-60-90 plan for onboarding people at Winplus.

Design Within Reach: Contract Operations intern - I got this internship for the summer before my senior year. As the Contract Operation intern, I learned how to use SalesForce and Netsuite Oracle. I would support the contract operations team with purchase orders. I also got the opportunity to work with the supply chain team. I created purchase orders, packing slips and BL worth 2 million dollars of inventory. For this order, I had to effectively communicate with individuals overseas. Sometimes there were language barriers, so this showed me the importance of clear communication.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

I have learned a lot through my leadership roles and academic experiences at Dickinson. As an international business & management major and computer science minor, I have had the opportunity to deepen my commitment to the college by using my organizational and managerial skills. In addition to my studies, I hold multiple leadership roles such as the president of Dickinson’s programming board (MOB), a house and apartment manager, a service trips coordinator, and a library supervisor. Through these roles, I have experienced navigating complex problems to develop meaningful resolutions by maintaining effective communication, emphasizing a desire to be challenged and leading by example. After receiving the Unsung Hero award for my commitment to go beyond the call of duty in MOB, my intellectual curiosity sparked the creation and implementation of new signage and organization for food events to promote sustainable food waste, leading to my recognition as the Executive Board Member of the Year the following year. The honors I am grateful to receive came with my commitment to be dependable and dedicated to the success of organizations I am part of, which I hope to bring to organizations I join after Dickinson. With extensive leadership experience and a focus on sustainable development, I have become more confident in my ability to incorporate my soft and hard skills to consistently collaborate, adapt and tackle complex issues.

I hope to use my passions and values to uphold Ernst & Young’s values of integrity, respect, commitment and collaboration. What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Dickinson provided me the opportunity to travel abroad for the first time, strengthen my cultural ties through their globally focused education, and connect me to a new perspective on learning as I attended programs in Japan, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. I also was honored to be elected as the chair of MOB. Service trips are also an extremely important part of my time at Dickinson.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has prepared me for life after graduation by providing me with an expansive educational experience that has helped broaden my perspective on life and deepen both my understanding of and curiosity about the world around me. It has encouraged me to embrace difference, challenge and change and to push myself to the potential that I never even knew I had. I have the utmost confidence that the knowledge, tools, experiences and relationships that I have cultivated over the past four years at Dickinson will help me navigate whatever life has in store for me.

What are you most anticipating about your career or post-graduate pursuits?

I am most anxious to apply everything that I have learned and experienced throughout my time at Dickinson. I think that coming from a liberal arts institution where we were encouraged to explore disciplines outside of just our major has instilled in me a unique and valuable perspective. I want to be successful and to me, that means making a meaningful impact wherever life and my career take me.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Many defining moments in my Dickinson experience came from being a member of the women's soccer team. This season was particularly impactful as we made the sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. It was so meaningful because it never would have been possible without the countless hours of hard work and dedication my teammates, coaches, and I put into rebuilding our program the past four years. Those memories and friendships will undoubtedly last a lifetime.

Another source of defining experience for me at Dickinson was my time studying abroad in Bologna, Italy. This was my first time ever leaving the United States and it was truly life-changing. It taught me to be courageous, empathetic and curious. Had it not been for Dickinson's emphasis on global education and the benefits of culturally immersive study opportunities, I never would have realized how much beauty and good the world has to offer.

Is there any other information you would like us to know?

No words will ever be enough to truly express my gratitude for everything that Dickinson has done for me. I could not have asked for a better home these past four years. My only regret is not cherishing it more before this abrupt and untimely end. I cannot wait to be able to give back to a place that has given me so much.

Internship Experience

I had two internships during my time at Dickinson. In the summer before my junior year, I interned at Penske Truck Leasing in Reading, Pa. with the fuel and energy supply team. My responsibilities included resolving invoice discrepancies, managing fuel supply bids, updating netback calculations and more. In the summer before my senior year, I interned at Direct Energy Business in Houston, Texas as an ERCOT power pricing intern. My responsibilities included acting as a key contributor for the Proactive Pricing Pilot that would eventually be presented to senior leadership, constructing data models and comprehensive pricing sheets to be utilized by sales and pricing teams daily and more.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

What is unique about Dickinson is the opportunity to have a liberal arts education, molding me to become an overall well-rounded person. I was encouraged to take classes outside of my major and interests to broaden my skills and knowledge, which I often found myself applying in both my work experience and everyday life. My major gave me the opportunity to take classes in Spanish, which I furthered my studies by studying abroad in Malaga, Spain for one semester. Through its diverse coursework, my major allowed me to understand the business world in depth and how each area of business is vital. From this unique education experience, I had three internships as a student at Dickinson, all in different areas of business (investment management, medical device and mining & metal). During my internship experiences, especially as a service contracts analyst at Olympus and a summer analyst at Macquarie, I discovered my interest in data analytics.
