Class of 1980 Outdoor Kitchen Project
In celebration of our 45th reunion year, the class of 1980 has the exciting opportunity to leave its mark at Dickinson’s John M. Paz ‘78 Alumni & Family Center. A state-of-the-art outdoor kitchen will soon be under construction at the Paz Center. The reunion committee, in partnership with classmate Doug Pauls, invite you to join us in raising $80,000, with a donation of any amount, to fund and name this beautiful new space in honor of our class.
Download the project outline here.
The Paz Center provides a permanent on-campus home for Dickinson alumni and families. More than just a welcome center, this entirely donor-funded facility provides a dedicated space for alumni to visit campus and interact with students, faculty and administrators, fostering deeper connections within the Dickinson community. The Class of 1980 outdoor kitchen will be a permanent structure on the building’s grounds and will transform the backyard into a versatile area for events, from casual get-togethers to formal gatherings, enriching the experience for all who visit.
This project is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about creating a vibrant, welcoming space where not only our class, but all alumni and future generations of Dickinsonians can gather, celebrate, and create memories. Through this opportunity, our class can leave a lasting legacy that reflects our commitment to Dickinson and its future.
Your support is crucial in making this vision a reality. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to our goal and demonstrates the enduring bond we share as a class. To support this project, you can make your gift online by selecting “Class of 1980 Outdoor Kitchen” as your gift designation. If you would like to make a one-time or multi-year pledge, contact a staff member or our class liaison, Lindsay McCauslin ‘06, at mccausll@dickinson.edu for assistance.
Highlights from the Reunion
Our 45th reunion was memorable! Thank you to everyone who came to campus to celebrate with us—we welcomed 34 classmates in total. It was so much fun catching up, reminiscing, and celebrating one another’s accomplishments. We are thrilled to share some of the highlights of the weekend.
At the Alumni Award Ceremony on Friday evening, we beamed with class pride! Our heartfelt congratulations go to classmates Bill Gray and Vince Sheehy. Gray, whose loyalty and compassion are well known in the college community, was presented with this year’s Professional Achievement Award for his dedication to advancing the interventional (nonsurgical) treatment of heart disease and prevention of stroke and spurring key developments in his field. Sheehy was one of this year’s recipients of the inaugural Community Impact Award, established to celebrate Dickinson alumni who have made substantive contributions to the betterment of their communities.
After the Welcome Reception, we gathered for a private class dinner to celebrate our funding of the Class of 1980 Outdoor Kitchen at the John M. Paz ’78 Alumni & Family Center. We enjoyed a meal prepared on the brand-new kitchen appliances and classmate Doug Pauls shared his reflections on the legacy of this special class project. At this point, we have raised $75,875, less than $5,000 shy of our $80,000 goal to fully fund the outdoor kitchen. Our deepest thanks go out to all classmates who have contributed to the kitchen project, or to any other fund, in honor of our reunion year! Collectively, 27.8% of our class has raised more than $6.3 million in total for Dickinson. It’s not too late to participate if you haven’t done so! Please make your gift and consider directing it to the Class of 1980 Outdoor Kitchen before June 30 so that it counts towards our reunion year.
Another highlight of our 45th reunion was class dinner on Saturday evening. It was a joyous occasion, with welcome remarks from classmate Julie Levin Alexander and the opportunity to hear about the new and exciting projects happening on the College Farm from Jenn Halpin, director of the College Farm, and Matt Steiman, assistant director of the College Farm and energy projects manager. We enjoyed a visit from President Jones, and of course, we took a class photo! After dinner, many of us enjoyed dessert and music at the all-college dance party and spent the rest of the night on the dance floor.

Thank you again to everyone that joined us on campus to celebrate our 45th. It’s hard to believe that our 50th reunion is only 5 years away. In the meantime, let’s stay in touch!
