It's About MORE Than Food!
Dickinson Dining Services takes great pride in being a responsible member of the Dickinson College campus community and the community at large. We take it upon ourselves to be good stewards to a diverse number of efforts.
Dining Services works to be an industry trend-setter in environmental sustainability. Our continual process enhancements including local purchasing, fair trade purchasing, waste reduction, composting program, and lowered energy consumption align with Dickinson's overall sustainable message.
Dining Services played a role in the college's high ranking in Sierra magazine's "Cool Schools" list. Efforts in local purchasing and waste reduction were cited as contributing factors to Dickinson's strong performance.
Additionally, we work with several educational departments on campus to create real world learning situations for students. Academic outreach includes student business planning and sustainable purchase planning through a collaborative internship program with the Center for Sustainability Education on campus. We are major supporters of educational efforts including the Dickinson College Farm and Dickinson's annual student energy challenge.
In an effort to facilitate more student input in our offerings, we have collaborated with Dickinson's Student Senate to create the Food Advisory Committee (FAC). Students with various academic, social and dietary interests offer suggestions for dining programs in a group setting on a bi-weekly basis.
