How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?
Dickinson has prepared me both academically and socially for life after graduation. Having a liberal arts education going into the sciences is so valuable, given how interdisciplinary the field is, allowing me to approach my work from a well rounded perspective. Dickinson has taught me how to interact with people of different backgrounds and opinions, while also preparing me for a career in marine science, despite being in a land-locked state. I'm a D3I athlete with a double B.S. in biology and environmental science who also studied abroad for a year, and Dickinson has showed me that the sky's the limit, and with support of my peers and professors, I can be successful in whatever I put my mind to. I am looking forward to joining a rich network of Dickinson alumni!

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?
The hands-on nature of these experiences has provided me with a diverse skill set that was crucial for successfully engaging in inquiry. As a student researcher, I also developed and expanded my proficiency using data and geospatial analysis tools including Microsoft Excel, R and GIS. These technical skills were essential for collecting, managing and analyzing data collected during field work. Another important tenet of my role as a researcher has been science communication. I had several opportunities to present research findings to both scholars and agricultural workers. Overall, these experiences reinforced the critical need for both research and technical expertise to ensure the success of complex field-based projects. I believe the skills I learned professionally and academically during these projects have prepared me well for life after graduation.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?
A defining moment at Dickinson was visiting the
College Farm for the first time. Having grown up in a city, it was fascinating to see sheep, glean carrots, and help weed on Fridays. It provided me a concrete glimpse into local food production and piqued my interest in agroecology, which eventually lead to pursuing the food studies certificate. It's been fun getting to see the multidisciplinary connections between my environmental science and data analytics coursework.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?
After being involved in a variety of different classes, activities, leadership roles, and spaces, my perspective on the world has broadened and I've grown in my ability to see other viewpoints. The people that came together here were the beating heart of campus, and essential to being prepared for the future. Dickinson was the stepping stone of knowledge to think critically about people, places, and the world around us. I feel more confident in my own beliefs and ways of knowing, but I also feel comfortable being uncomfortable and learning more about other people's experiences. My ways of thinking have changed since coming to Dickinson, and the nuance of life is much more apparent and welcomed now.
