How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has enabled me the experience to discover more about my present self, as well as the woman I plan to build up to in the future. Surrounded by an inspiring and inclusive student body, I vowed to rise to the same example and challenge myself to excel as a young woman and scholar through my involvement in on-campus events and within the local Carlisle community. I applied for positions that surpassed my comfort zone on the Executive Board of Student Senate, jobs on and off-campus and various club positions. Today, I continue to set goals beyond those of comfort as Dickinson has prepared me to. I am driven and determined to put in the time and effort in the rigorous graduate program I will be attending to pursue my professional goals.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

I anticipate the MBA/ MS in accounting program at Northeastern University's D'Amore-Mckim School of Business to be rigorous. However, I am determined to rise to all the challenges with the goals of receiving my CPA license and pursuing a career in taxation.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Some of the defining moments of my Dickinson experience include serving as director of financial strategy for the Student Senate, serving on the Spanish Majors Committee and my membership in Kappa Alpha Theta

Internship Experience

As the tax intern for United Way of the Capital Region in partnership with Dickinson College, I was given an office phone in my dorm room to schedule clients for tax preparation appointments. Most importantly, once a week, I prepared income tax returns for Carlisle residents in need. Lastly, I remotely worked with my supervisor to brainstorm the best ways to remotely file tax returns for our clients due to the extension to tax season by COVID-19. It was a great honor to be selected as the only VITA intern out of about 10 to 15 VITA volunteers to provide the necessary tax-return assistance to low-and-moderate income individuals, families, the elderly, persons with disabilities and those with limited English-speaking ability. I directly made an impact on the Carlisle community and discovered taxation as a potential pursuit of mine.

As the current finance intern at the head office of EDSI, I assist the finance team on a weekly basis to compile invoices and gather data. I also work directly with the senior finance manager and corporate controller on special projects. For example, I updated the contracts repository for the entire company for this program year, in which I directed several meetings with project accountants and served as a project manager. Currently, I am creating a schedule of the company's tax returns to create an efficient tracking system. My biggest accomplishment in this role thus far was creating the budget for a grant proposal seeking to establish a new program that would provide resources to underprivileged high school students. My contribution to the team was successful, as EDSI won this grant proposal.

I served as the bilingual human services intern, where I worked directly with the facilitator team lead. As a part of the facilitator team, I organized the curriculum for several, self-directed courses on Canvas. I also translated the orientation handbook for the office's biggest program into Spanish. Furthermore, I supported the data analysis team by tracking each program’s funding stream, enrollments, placements and retention rates using Microsoft Power BI. I also assisted the marketing team on several projects by creating flyers and writing scripts for videos as well as interviewing clients.
