About

Dickinson College was founded in the era of American revolution, and Dickinson alumni have proudly served in the armed forces since the founding of our college. On June 23, 1952, the Army Reserve Officers Training Corp was officially established at Dickinson. Today, the Dickinson Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), locally known as the Blue Mountain Battalion, is a leadership-development program deepening the liberal-arts experience at Dickinson by cultivating the ability to organize, motivate and lead others.

The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps Commissioning Ceremony is held inside the Alumni Gymnasium during Commencement on June 12, 1955. This occasion apparently marks the first time that the ceremony had been held at Dickinson.

Class of 1967 Vietnam Veterans Project

A message from the class of ’67:

Vietnam was our generation’s war. Between 1957 and 1975, over 58,000 American service members lost their lives. It was a time of protests in the streets, a time when troops were spit upon when returning home and when our government was not forthcoming as to what the United States was doing in southeast Asia, much less in the Republic of Vietnam.
