Student Snapshot: Justice Roney ’24
“Take chances on the things you’re passionate about—you never know where they may lead,” says Justice Roney ’24, a Student Senate officer who traveled to Paris through a Dickinson Globally Integrated Mosaic Course, helped organize a major lecture at Dickinson and starred in the spring musical.

Major:
Political science, with a minor in English and certificate in security studies.
Clubs and organizations:
Student Senate Executive Board (director of academics), Sisters of Color United (president), Mermaid Players, Womanist Collective and the Afro-Diasporic & Cultural Collective.
Honors/scholarships/awards:
The David Long Memorial and Alfred Swan Memorial Scholarship, Stabler Foundation Scholarship, J. Bruce and Sarah Hollister McKinney Senior Scholarship and grants through Dickinson and the PHEAA.
Best thing about my Dickinson experience so far:
Being a part of the spring musical, Spring Awakening. I am surrounded by so many kind and talented people, from our cast to our tech crew, directors, costume designers, band and so many more! From the very beginning, everyone has been so eager to help each other bring this amazing musical to life.
Being in Spring Awakening has reignited my passion for music and acting, and I think the 6-year-old version of me who used to love singing for her family would be proud! It has also taught me more about myself than I initially realized and challenged me to continuously believe in my capabilities.
Best advice:
Take chances on the things you’re passionate about—you never know where they may lead! If I had never run for my Student Senate position, I would have never led the Poitras-Gleim event, where I met Assistant Professor of Theatre & Dance Keola Simpson, who is the director of Spring Awakening. When you repress any hobby or skill that brings you immense joy, you are doing a disservice to yourself, so take those chances!
Most important thing I’ve learned so far:
Take advantage of every interesting opportunity that college has to offer! At first, I was reserved and a bit scared to engage with new people and clubs. However, during the past year I went for every interesting opportunity. I have met so many wonderful people who introduced me to experiences like going to Paris over spring break as part of a short GIS journey. Challenging myself to explore areas that inspire me, like politics and the arts, have opened doors I never would have imagined. Dickinson is full of creative and intelligent students and staff, and being receptive to them will create memories and opportunities you will treasure!
