During his first year on campus, Ethan Ferrant ’28 earned awards in athletics and academics, was on the men's lacrosse Centennial Conference championship team and made it to the Division III men’s lacrosse national championship game. He also forged strong connections with professors and teammates. Below, Ethan shares what he’s learned and the memory he’ll never forget.
Hometown:
Merrimac, Mass.
Major:
International business & management, with a certificate in security studies.
Clubs and organizations:
Liberty Cap Society, men’s lacrosse.
Honors/scholarships/awards:
Dean’s List, German Award and men’s lacrosse Rookie of the Year.
Best thing about my Dickinson experience so far:
Playing in the D3 National Championship at Gillette Stadium with my best friends. It's a memory I will never forget.
On choosing Dickinson:
I was recruited to play lacrosse, and I fell in love with the campus and the tight-knit community.
Favorite class or learning experience so far:
My favorite learning experience so far was the spring lacrosse season. We started the year 3-4 and ended up making it to the nationals, finishing 17-6 and winning the Centennial Conference Championship. It shows that the key to success is not letting adversity derail you, but putting your head down and working even harder—getting better one day at a time.
Best thing about my major:
The professors. They always seek to know me beyond the surface level, and they are there to help whenever I reach out.
Favorite professor:
My microeconomics professor, Associate Professor of Economics Anthony Underwood, is probably my favorite so far. He’s into sports, so it was easy to talk with him. He also really cared about what students in my class were interested in and would integrate that into the material.
As a kid, I wanted to be …
… a movie director. I still love watching movies. My favorite is Good Will Hunting.
Proudest accomplishment so far:
Having the honor of being part of the Dickinson men’s lacrosse team. You won’t find a better group of young men, and Coach Webster is the man.
Advice for younger students:
It’s easier to hold yourself accountable when you do your work in the library instead of just sitting in your dorm. Go to the library and use the resources there.
