Every summer brings a fresh new perspective to Dickinson's Board of Trustees, as a new graduate joins its ranks. July 1 marked the start of Jordyn Ney ’23's service as the college's 13th Young Alumni Trustee (YAT).

Launched in 2011, the YAT is a two-year position, with full voting rights, that brings a unique voice to board discussions and meetings. Students are nominated during their senior year and are appointed by board vote. The newest YAT is announced during the Commencement ceremony.

Ney, a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earned a political science degree at Dickinson, where she was a member of the College Republicans and president of the campus chapter of Network of Enlightened Women. She graduated summa cum laude, was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honors society and earned the Bruce Andrew’s Prize for excellence in political science. Ney is employed as an associate at GLS Public Strategies Group in Harrisburg and as assistant Mock Trial coach at Juniata College. She recently published an opinion piece about patriotism in The Washington Examiner.

Looking toward her good work ahead, Ney reflects that when she arrived at Dickinson, she viewed her education as "a means to an end"—a chance to attain a career-launching degree. Four years later, she also appreciates the ways she's grown as a thinker, an engaged citizen and lifelong learner. And she's eager to put those insights and skills to work.

“Serving as the next YAT means an opportunity to engage more closely with the incredible individuals who shape Dickinson and make it the wonderful place it is,” Ney says. “I am truly honored and humbled to serve in this position.”
