The rain couldn't stop adventurous Dickinsonians from attending the CommServ Fair in the HUB Social Hall last week. In its third year, the CommServ Fair allows students to learn about the 16 local organizations Dickinson College partners with on community service and civic engagement projects. Over 100 students signed up for community service programs supported by the Center for Service, Spirituality & Social Justice (CSSS).
"The goal of all our community service programs is to encourage students to do regular and sustainable service so that they learn to know this community, understand the needs in Carlisle and become engaged citizens while they are at Dickinson and after they graduate," says Rev. Donna Hughes, director of CSSS.
The fair is a great way to learn about ways to get involved, but students who missed it can still find plenty of opportunities to get involved in Carlisle. Each semester, service coordinators recruit volunteers for service opportunities offered by CSSS. These events include the annual Day of Service, service trips during fall pause, winter and spring breaks and weekends, Justice Served and Rise Against Hunger, just to name a few.
The position of director of CSSS is supported by the United Methodist Church. Learn more about community service opportunities at Dickinson.
