Health, Safety and Insurance

Planning for your health and safety while abroad is important. Take time to read over frequently asked questions to prepare in advance. Dickinson provides medical and travel security assistance to students through International SOS, a global medical and security services company. Please contact them to discuss your health care needs, including recommended vaccines for certain countries, taking prescription medication abroad, and arranging care for chronic medical conditions. Students are encouraged to disclose health conditions that may impact their participation in the program on their Medical Information Form or speak with your Center for Global Study and Engagement advisor.

All students participating on programs abroad are also covered by a Dickinson-funded policy through CHUBB American Insurance Company. Services or treatments not covered by the Chubb global medical plan are the responsibility of the person who incurs them. Please review the following information:

Voluntary Personal Property & Liability Insurance for Students, Faculty, and Staff

Students, faculty, and staff are not covered by Dickinson for personal liability, including the loss or theft of personal property. It is the responsibility of each program participant to purchase liability insurance, if needed. Students who bring laptops are advised to purchase adequate coverage. Check first to see whether your parent/guardian's homeowner's insurance covers personal liability while overseas. Normally, a copy of the police report filed at the time of loss or theft will be required by the insurer before any claim will be considered.
