Dickinson College in the News: April 2019

From March 25 to April 26, there were 341 national and 14 international mentions of Dickinson in the news.  

Highlights: 

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Washington Informer reported on a special forum in Washington, D.C., marking the fifth anniversary of the Boko Harm kidnappings. President Margee Ensign, Visiting International Scholar in International Studies Jacob Udo-Udo Jacob and Bridge student Patience Bulus participated in the forum at the invitation of Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida. 

WITF produced an extensive report on Dickinson’s Bridge program. Ensign, Jacob and Bridge student Patience Bulus were interviewed. The report aired on NPR member stations statewide. Jacob also was quoted in an Eventbrite story on millennial women and activism.  

Associate Professor of Philosophy Crispin Sartwell’s latest op-ed, “Russian Memes Didn’t Steal the Election,” was published in The Wall Street Journal.  

Instructor in Policy Studies Kathryn Heard was quoted in The Christian Science Monitor story, “Death Penalty with Dignity? Supreme Court Reopens Debate.” 

Associate Professor of Political Science and International Studies Andrew Wolff was interviewed by HBO’s Vice News Tonight for a report marking 70 years of NATO.  

Assistant Professor of English & Film Studies Greg Steirer was an expert guest on Knowledge@Wharton, which airs daily on Sirius XM. Steirer joined a former HBO VP for a discussion on Disney’s streaming service. It was his second appearance on the program in a month.  

Professor of Psychology Marie Helweg-Larsen was interviewed by Danish Radio on the topic of “pyt,” which was recently voted the most popular word by Danes. The interview was based on her recent editorial in The Conversation, which was republished in The Washington Post and on CNN.com.  

Professor of History Matt Pinsker and students who led the Dickinson & Slavery project were featured guests on WITF’s Smart Talk discussing their research findings and potential next steps for the college.  

On Earth Day, CSE Executive Director Neil Leary was a featured guest on WITF Smart Talk discussing renewable energy. 

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Yahoo! were among 68 online news sites and TV and radio stations that published news of Dickinson’s new partnership with CET Academic Programs as the school of record for CET’s high school and pre-college study abroad programs.  

The announcement of actor and environmentalist Pierce Brosnan as the 2019 Commencement speaker was published in Hollywood Reporter, InsideHigherEd, PennLive, The Sentinel, FOX43 and ABC27.
