Job Responsibilities

As a member of the campaign finance team, I meet with prospective donors and teach them how to become raisers for Tom's campaign. I will meet with them in their home city in Pennsylvania, help them think about their networks and develop a fundraising strategy. Additionally, I will coordinate campaign fundraising events and work with the candidate on his fundraising strategy.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has taught me how to think critically and question every belief that I came to school with because of my upbringing. I learned the power of hard work and relationships. I learned how to look at life holistically and how to articulate the intersections between all facets of life. I have learned how to "dream big," set goals and reach them and turn my passion into a defined skillset. I have refined my leadership skills. I owe this place and the people who make it wonderful everything, and I am so grateful that I chose this institution for my undergraduate degree.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

I can see myself either enjoying fundraising and staying within that route or pursuing a law degree. I am excited to see where my liberal-arts degree takes me because I know I have skillsets that can transcend pure vocational jobs.

• Selected for the Montgomery Service Leaders program as a first year.

I am hopeful that the sustainable agriculture and food education field is well established enough for me to hop on with meaningful organizations.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Living in the Treehouse. Working at the farm. Taking Intro to Women & Gender studies and Native American Women & Feminisms. Taking courses in the arts. Going on a spring break trip with my NHV course. Having personal relationships with my professors.

Job Responsibilities

• Support press/media initiatives by creating: press releases, fact sheets, talking points, photo selections, media lists, media monitoring reports, etc.
• Contribute to the production of print/digital PR tools and materials, including paid advertisements, sponsored content, marketing collateral (e.g., brochures, annual reports, etc.), TV spots, etc.
• Assist in a full range of activities related to summarizing, proofreading and transcribing.
• Support interactions with consultants and vendors to ensure smooth production of marketing services, from onboarding to final payment.
• Regularly update photo database (powered by Canto) with Orbis photography/video, captions and keywords for internal and external use.
• Field email inquiries, including journalist inquiries and sales pitches, and escalate to the appropriate team members.
• Assist N.Y. communications team in maintenance of department intranet pages by implementing updates as needed and directed by the team.
• Support staff members with brand identity inquiries, ensuring proper distribution and use of all logos, brand colors and other brand assets.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

I think Dickinson has greatly prepared me to collaborate with others, and to not only learn how to do group work well. but to learn to enjoy it. This mostly comes from the mosaic program to Nepal, but I think this will be essential in my job functioning which requires a lot of communication and working with people from other departments and people outside of the organization. I also think Dickinson has given me an opportunity to learn about social issues that make me a favorable employee. My writing skills are also clearly a result of this education as I have spent most of my classes writing papers.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

I am anticipating putting in a lot of hours, and I am assuming feelings of being overwhelmed with my first job, as the responsibilities are vast. But I am also anticipating that it will further my understanding of nonprofit work and put me in a good place to find careers in nonprofits that are more in the management side of things. Right now in two to three years, I am hoping to go to graduate school for nonprofit management, but we'll see where the next years of employment take me.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

The largest defining moment of my Dickinson experience was the mosaic to Nepal studying the impacts of climate change on human security. It was the most formative in terms of things I really learned and took away from my years at Dickinson. It gave me a wider appreciation for other cultures, it exposed me to other ways of living and new careers and has easily been my favorite moment of the entirety of my life. Nothing I have done at Dickinson even comes close to this experience. However, other defining moments could include being a part of the cross country and track team my freshman year, joining Delta Nu my sophomore year, participating in independent research my junior year and going abroad in the fall of my senior year.

Internship Experience

I had two internships with Orbis International as a communications intern, one full-time in the summer in New York City and one part-time remote while I was abroad. I also interned with More Gardens as an environmental educator in New York City. For Orbis, I was responsible for managing two projects, one was vetting new DAM software and rolling out the selected system, the other was archiving all digital and print materials to create a complete timeline of the history of the organization. At More Gardens, I was responsible for all day-to-day camp functions, teaching students about environmental issues, gardening, etc. I also helped with fundraising and distributing letters to communicate with vendors. I also was responsible for communicating with parents and logistics- such as lesson planning, food, field trips, etc.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has prepared me for life after graduation by giving me chances to practice real life skills in low-pressure situations inside and outside of the classroom. Many of my classes focused on writing and research skills. One class even wrote a grant for a local organization. All of my professors have been really approachable and always willing to help me with schoolwork or figuring out what I want to do after graduation.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

I am excited to be helping make a difference in people’s lives. Currently I don’t know what my career will look like long term, but Dickinson taught me to try new experiences before I decide about them. I did not study education directly at Dickinson, but all of the skills I learned in my majors are transferable.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Being a member of the cross-country and track teams has really defined my Dickinson experience. Every day, I was surrounded by teammates who pushed each other to be a little better, both in the classroom and athletics. Balancing academics and athletics has taught me how to structure my time and the importance of prioritizing what is important to me. Additionally, one of my favorite things about Dickinson is by the end of four years, it's hard to walk around campus without seeing someone you know.

Dickinson has helped me realize and develop my interests and seek out related opportunities. My internships at the Center for Sustainability Education (CSE) and meetings with Career Center staff specifically have helped me learn new skills and how to best present them on a resume or in an interview.

What are you most anticipating about your career or postgraduate pursuits?

That hopefully my first few jobs help me decide more of what I want to do further in the future and that I meet a lot of new people.

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

Interning at CSE, living in the Treehouse, my sociology and environmental studies courses and my friends.

I interned at Dickinson's Center for Sustainability Education for three semesters (part time) and one summer (full time) during my time at Dickinson.
