July 2024
Three Things for July 3
1. Find your First-Year Seminar assignment.
Your First-Year Seminar assignment has been posted! Check the Dickinson Gateway for your assignment by selecting the SSB icon and then Student/Course Selection/Active Courses. And don’t forget to sign up for your New Student Advising Session (see the scheduling email sent to your D’son account last week).
2. Be ready for your New Student Advising Session.
New Student Advising starts soon! You will begin your academic journey this summer by requesting your first semester's courses. Our New Student Advising team will be hosting sessions from the Advising & Student Success Office July 8-12 to discuss your course requests—and how your emerging authentic interests fit with those courses for the fall. Please review the information on our website to prepare, and make sure you have signed up for your New Student Advising session (see email sent last week about New Student Advising). This is going to be fun and completely centered on you and your journey!
3. Complete your health forms.
The deadline to submit the required health forms to the Wellness Center was July 1, 2024. All required forms are completed through the Patient Portal. You must complete the online medical history form, complete the online TB Risk Assessment form, enter your immunization information and submit a copy of your healthcare provider's immunization record or the immunization record form signed by your healthcare provider.
Wellness Center staff are updating the Patient Portal with all health information received to date, so please check your health forms status to verify compliance by following the instructions below:
- Go to the Patient Portal and log in with the same user name and password you use for email. You can also access the Patient Portal through Gateway and selecting the Pyramed tile.
- Click on the Immunizations tab, Immunization History to view your compliance status.
- Read any secure messages waiting for you and reply if you have any questions regarding the missing requirement(s).
For additional information, please refer to our Health Forms Guide.
Special Note for International Students: If a required immunization is unavailable in your home country, the Wellness Center will be in contact with you to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine upon your arrival to Dickinson.
Remember: You won't be able to move into your residence hall if your health forms are not complete!
Three Things for July 10
1. Connect with your New Student Advising team member.
New Student Advising sessions have begun! You should have received an email with details about scheduling your advising appointment, and how to prepare. If you have not yet done so, please schedule your appointment ASAP. Contact newstudentadvising@dickinson.edu with any questions.
2. Celebrate with your fellow Dickinsonians!
Throughout July and August, you and your family are invited to connect with your new classmates as well as alumni, parents and current students at Summer Send-Offs around the country. Registration is available now!
3. Make arrangements for health insurance and plan your tuition payments.
All students are required to have health insurance. You may either enroll in the college-sponsored health insurance plan or waive this plan by providing proof of coverage. Click here to learn more about the student health insurance and how you can waive this plan.
The Student Accounts office will send you an email this week, with information on how to access your billing statement through the Gateway portal. Dickinson offers an interest-free monthly tuition installment plan through NelNet Campus Commerce. This plan allows you to spread out your fall semester out-of-pocket balance over five months (June to October) and spring semester out-of-pocket balance over five months (November to March) for a small enrollment fee of $35 per semester. For more information, or to enroll in the plan, please dial 1-800-722-4867 or visit the tuition payment plans page.
Three Things for July 17
1. Enter your course requests.
The first-year course request period opens at 9 am on July 17. Please review the instructions and enter your course requests via SSB in Gateway for fall 2024. Important: If you do not enter your requests by 4 p.m. on July 24, you will not be able to select classes until the First-Year Schedule Adjustment Period, which runs from August 14-September 1.
Please Note: The course request period ends promptly at 4 p.m. on July 24. You are responsible for confirming that the correct course requests have been entered before the end of the Course Request Period. They will show in Gateway under Current Schedule with a status of “Course Requested” if entered correctly.
2. Get ready to move-in!
Residence Life & Housing looks forward to welcoming you to campus in August! During the month of July, we use the information you provided to us in your roommate preference form to assign you housing. We will share your housing assignment and roommate information by the first week in August. Move in for most first-year students will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Family members are welcome to join their student on move-in day. If you have any questions, please contact reslife@dickinson.edu.
3. If relevant, connect with Access & Disability Services about possible accommodations.
Did you have a high school IEP, a 504 plan, or eligibility for academic accommodations (like extended time on tests)? Might you need any accommodations this fall? So do hundreds of other Dickinsonians! If you're not sure about using accommodations at Dickinson email access@dickinson.edu to confidentially learn more.
If you intend to seek any accommodations, ADS needs sufficient time to review requests and supporting documentation so that accommodations can be determined and in place by the start of the semester. Even if you missed the May 31 deadline, it’s not too late if you go to the Access & Disability Services website and follow the steps for requesting accommodations ASAP.
Three Things for July 24
1. Share your interest in music.
Deepen your passion or expand your horizons with music at Dickinson! Have you been enjoying music for years? Or do you want to take up music for the first time—and for college credit? Let us know your experience and interest in music on the Music Interest Form (look in Navigate in your to do items).
And come find out more at Music Information & Audition Night, Tuesday, September 3 at 5:30, Weiss Center for the Arts. All your questions about music lessons, courses, ensembles, instruments for loan, lockers for instruments, practice spaces, and more will be answered that evening. Feel free to reach out with any questions to music@dickinson.edu.
2. Access the Academic Integrity Tutorial.
Part of the privilege of attending Dickinson College includes the responsibility of adhering to our Community Standards, which include principles for academic integrity. Students are expected to show respect for the ideas of others when using them to create original works by citing appropriately. Plagiarizing the work of others is prohibited and may be harshly penalized. To help educate our community about this topic, all first-year students and other students new to Dickinson are required to complete an online tutorial regarding academic integrity and plagiarism. Students who do not complete this instruction by the deadline will have a hold placed on their accounts that prevents them from registering for the next semester’s courses.
The Academic Integrity Tutorial is available through Moodle by clicking “AD Academic Integrity Tutorial – Fall 2024.” beginning July 22 on the Dickinson Gateway and must be completed by September 16, 2024 no later than 8 AM.
3. Complete the START Module.
Incoming students are required to complete the START Learning Program for Higher Education prior to the start of their first semester. The START Program is an online series of well-researched educational programs for adults committed to thinking about their life choices and values. It includes modules aimed at reducing campus sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking; empowering bystanders of potentially violent situations to intervene before the violence occurs.
The START Program is available online and all three modules must be completed by August 10.
Three Things for July 31
1. Record your name pronunciation.
Correctly pronouncing your name is important to us; therefore, we've added a new feature in the Gateway (under the College Name Registration widget) for you to upload a recording of you saying your name. Faculty and staff are then able to play your recording from their student lists and class rosters. Please take a moment to upload a recording.
2. Download the GET App.
Use GET, an online and mobile platform, to instantly add and request declining balance funds with a debit and credit card, view your campus card account balances and transactions, as well as the ability to upload an ID photo. Download the GET Mobile App from the App Store or Google Play. This is also how you or family members can add money to your declining balance – so be sure to share the web address with them (https://get.cbord.com).
3. Get support through TELUS Student Support.
TELUS My Student Support Program is a free and confidential mental health and wellbeing support service available to you 24/7:
