Guidelines for Documenting a Disability
Our documentation guidelines are unique to each type of accommodation request. Please refer to the following pages for the corresponding documentation guidelines:
DEADLINES:
Students should start the request process by submitting a "Disability Disclosure and Request for Accommodations" form via CLIQ's Forms Center as soon as the need for accommodations is known.
For Academic Accommodation Requests, documentation should be provided by...
- June, to have accommodations in place by the start of the Fall Semester, and
- October (or soon thereafter) to have accommodations in place by the Spring semester.
For Housing Accommodation Requests, documentation must be received by:
- March 14, for the Fall semester, and by
- November 15 for the Spring '26 semester.
Requests received after these deadlines will still be reviewed and considered but will necessarily take longer to process, being outside of the time allocated for making the above-noted accommodation determinations.
Dickinson approaches requests for accommodations with the belief that each student's circumstance is unique and that a flexible approach is the right way to determine appropriate accommodations. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADA-AA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, a disability diagnosis, by itself, does not establish a need or an entitlement to accommodations; but would substantiate such a need if the documentation provided to Dickinson clearly establishes a nexus between the disability and the necessity of the specific accommodation(s) being recommended.
