Compliance

Protecting Our Community

All employees of the college must complete the Protecting Our Community series of courses. These courses will assist employees in recognizing potentially problematic behaviors and provide practical ways to address and prevent workplace harassment. This will include a maximum of three online modules as outlined below:

  • Title IX and You (annually)
    • At Dickinson College, all employees are mandatory reporters. This means that we all must immediately report any knowledge of sexual or gender-based discrimination, harassment or misconduct to the Title IX Office. This office has trained professionals who will review every issue and concern reported, in accordance with our policies and federal and state laws, and provide resources to the parties involved.
  • Mosaic Prevent Discrimination and Harassment Together (biennially)
  • Protecting Our Community (new employees)

Each employee will receive a notification through Workday when it is time to renew. To view your required training, select Learning from your Personal menu. You will be redirected to your Learning Home page, which will list content and display a due date. More information can be found here.

All Dickinson employees have two sets of commitments:

  • A right to be free from harassment and discrimination in employment and education.
  • Duty to refrain from harassment and discrimination in employment and education.

FERPA: Protecting Student Privacy
(Family Education Rights and Privacy Act)

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of students with respect to information maintained in their education records. Faculty and staff are confronted with student concerns that go well beyond the academic or residential domain.  Anyone who works directly with students - including faculty, academic department coordinators, or administrative support employees – should enroll in this course via Workday.

Participants learn about student rights under FERPA and what is considered student records. This United Educators course will help learners understand:

  • How to describe FERPA
  • How to identify who is responsible for FERPA compliance
  • Critical definitions
  • What is (and what isn’t) a violation of FERPA
  • Advice for school officials, faculty, staff, and third parties

Dickinson College is committed to providing a supportive working environment for all employees with adhering to federal, state, and local regulations. As part of this effort, we have revised our training approach to further increase awareness of workplace harassment at the college while adhering to our obligation to provide a hostile-free work environment for all Dickinson employees and students.
