Why Your Gift Matters
Each year, thousands of Dickinsonians come together to provide more than $5 million of the funding that brings the distinctive Dickinson experience to more than 2,000 current students, and young alumni play a vital role in this process.

Without your gifts, there's simply not enough scholarships and financial aid to make Dickinson possible for more than half of our students, there's not enough funding to maintain our 9:1 student faculty ratio, and the close mentoring it makes possible, and there's not enough funding to support the leadership-building opportunities provided through athletics, student activities, study abroad, and much, much more.
In short, without your gifts, Dickinson isn't Dickinson.
Your Participation Matters Because Every Gift To The Dickinson Fund ...
influences rankings
And like a positive ripple effect, this influences the caliber of students, which influences the caliber of the college community, which influences the strength of the alumni network, which ultimately influences the strength of Dickinson's reputation. Did you know, The U.S. News and World Report uses the percentage of alumni participation as one of only seven ranking criteria?
increases grant funding
Foundations and corporations ask for the percentage of alumni giving to determine whether or not they will fund research grants, because they see that statistic as an indicator of the value alumni place on their experience and the fiscal health of the institution. These grants fund important work as they push the boundaries of the liberal-arts education.
enhances your diploma
Want to make that priceless Dickinson education even more valuable? Just make a gift, and you enhance the value of Dickinson's name on your resume and in the eyes of the world. Why? Look back at those other two reasons. When you strengthen Dickinson by making a gift, you strengthen the reputation of your alma mater. It's kind of like making a gift to yourself. And you don't even have to feel guilty about it.
And it all adds up!
5 gifts of $25 fund 1 week of a Dickinson internship grant that helps students like Omar Ali ’24, who interned at Baltimore’s Shock Trauma & Oral Surgery Center.
“This internship played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of my academic and career path. It reaffirmed my aspiration to become a dentist and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in providing comprehensive patient care.”
—Omar Ali ’24
But are young alumni really making a difference?
In a word, uh ... yeah. But don't take our word for it. Let's do the numbers:
$140,00+
Total dollars
from young alumni
in fiscal year 2023
611
Number of young
alumni donors
in fiscal year 2024
60
Number of funds
supported by young
alumni in FY 2024
did you know?
339 young alumni are currently members of the Mermaid Society, Dickinson's donor society for loyal donors who make a recurring gift or who have made a gift every year for the last three years. In fact, young alumni make up 6% of total Mermaid Society members
but wait, are these young alumni donors who are making a difference actually real people?
Once again, in a word, uh ... yeah (or is that actually two words?). And some of them might be Dickinsonians you know. Let's take a look at some of our recent young alumni donors:
“I give to Dickinson because I credit Dickinson with creating the person I am today—the person I have always wanted to be but didn’t know I could.”
—Jordan Ney ’23

And their gifts are also helping real people right now
Let's take a look at some of the students who depend on, and excel because of, your gifts.
