Meet the 2024 Women of Color Summit Team!

The Women of Color Summit is an annual convention that celebrates the talents, experiences, and knowledge of women of color on and off Dickinson's campus. This year's three-day event was organized by four executive members and two onsite advisors who are proud and excited for the Summit.

Venus Bhatt

Venus Bhatt

Class of 2024

They/She Venus Bhatt, a senior at Dickinson College is a Neuroscience and Theatre double major, from the serene Himalayan country Nepal. They are extremely passionate about autism and neurodivergence awareness and want to pursue acting and directing in their near future as well. They are a part of various clubs and organizations on the campus: Event chair at Asian and Asian American Collective, Executive member of the Neuroscience Club, Peer educator with the Wellness center, student worker at the scene shop (Carpentry, welding and designing set) and currently working on designing a club on campus that deals with autism and neurodivergence awareness. Acting, singing, performing and activism are their favorite activities to do outside of schoolwork. Venus is the Secretary for the Women of Color Summit 2023-2024. Being a woman of color and using their own voice for people who wouldn’t or can’t, is their main goal for this summit.

Ella Layton

Ella Layton

Class of 2026

(They/She) Ella Layton is a sophomore double majoring in English and Africana Studies. Outside of academics, they are a part of many organizations that intend to serve and support students of color on Dickinson’s campus. Ella acts as Historian for the Afro-Diasporic and Cultural Collective, works as a Clarke Forum Student Project Manager, and sings in the Infernos Co-Ed Acapella group among many other extracurriculars. This year Ella will be one of the Executive Liaisons for the 2024 Woman of Color Summit Planning Committee. They are excited for all that they’ll learn from their fellow peers, faculty, and staff.

Naomi Familia Paredes

Naomi Familia Paredes

Class of 2024

Naomi Familia Paredes is a senior double majoring in International Studies and Spanish & Portuguese Studies. She was born and raised in the Dominican Republic but moved to the U.S. at the age of 8. She currently lives in Reading, PA. On campus, she has worked for Access and Disability Services along with being a Phonathon Caller. She also carried out an internship with the US Army War College. This will be her second time being involved in the WOC Summit, as she participated during her sophomore year as well. She is looking forward to expanding her network and engaging in meaningful exchanges with other women of color on campus!

Robin Varol

Robin Varol

Class of 2026

Robin Varol is a sophomore majoring in International Studies and double minoring in Africana Studies and Film & Media Studies. They will serve the Women of Color Summit 2024 Planning Committee as one of the Executive Project Managers. Robin is an international student from Kazakhstan, and they strive to integrate an international perspective into Dickinson’s values and education, as well as to the Summit. Outside of schoolwork, they work as the department TA for the Russian Department here at Dickinson and are Co-President of the Photography Club. They act as the social media and marketing Chair for the Asian and Asian American Collective, Photography Club, and eXiled Poetry Society.

Nishtha Sharma

Hi! My name is Nishtha Sharma, and I am currently a sophomore at Dickinson College, Carlisle Pennsylvania. I am double majoring in Quantitative Economics and Data Analytics and am currently working at the Center for Civic Learning and Action as the Marketing and the Communications Coordinator. I serve as the Vice-President for the South Asian Cultural Club, the Project Manager for the International Students Network at Dickinson, and as the Marketing Coordinator for the Women of Color Summit. I am very passionate with a deep commitment to bring and support diversity and inclusion in the community. Alyssa Monsanto

Alyssa Monsanto

Class of 2024

Alyssa Monsanto is a senior Psychology major with minors in French, Creative Writing and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Dickinson College. She was born and raised in New York, but her family is from Haiti. With the use of her language skills, she has worked as both a Creole tutor, and a French tutor on campus respectively. Alyssa has also previously worked as a WGSS research intern on campus and is now part of the executive team for marketing on the WOC summit. She is looking forward to expanding her network and learning from the speakers at this year’s event!

Kiersten Kahn

Kiersten Kahn

(She/Her) Kiersten Kahn is a sophomore double majoring in Africana Studies and English at Dickinson College. She is from outside of Cleveland, Ohio. On campus, she is the Social Media Coordinator for the Womanist Collective, a mentor for first-year students in the A.C.E Peer Mentorship Program of the Popel Shaw Center for Race and Ethnicity, and a member of the Afro-Diasporic and Cultural Collective. She is also a member of the female identifying acapella group the Dickinson Syrens and participated in this fall’s orientation as an Orientation Leader for the Class of 2027. This is Kiersten’s first year working on the Women of Color Summit Planning Committee as a general committee member. She is thrilled to connect women of color on campus with wise alumni through the continuation of this safe and empowering space at Dickinson.

Hi! My name is Adity Kamath, and I am a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am from right outside Philadelphia, and I identify as Indo-Caribbean. On campus, I am the Secretary/Treasurer for the South Asian Cultural Club, and the Treasurer for the 2024 WoC summit. I was also an orientation leader for the class of 2027. This is my first time participating in the planning of the summit, but I am excited to create new connections and fortify the old ones with all the amazing women I will be working with on the exec board. I look forward to learning from and listening to the experiences of our advisors, fellow teammates, alumni, and visiting speakers. My hope is to be a part of building a strong and supportive community for all the women of color on campus and creating a safe space that will continue to exist in the years to come.

Hello, my name is Amina West! I am a junior, majoring in American Studies and I am contemplating minoring in Russian language. When I am not in class, I work closely with Dickinson students as a house manager for the Social Justice House and the Fundraising and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Dickinson Cheerleading team. This year as a general member of the Women of Color Summit, I am most excited to create stronger relationships with other WOC on campus as well as meet with Dickinson alumna and the broader Carlisle community!

Hi! I’m Alba Martinez, a senior, double majoring in Educational Studies and Latin American, Latinx, & Caribbean, as well as pursuing an Africana Studies minor. I am a first-generation Latina from The Bronx, NY. On campus, I have previously served as an A.C.E. Peer Mentor, and currently am an exec member of Dickinson’s Kappa Delta Pi chapter (International Education Honor Society), member of Wheel & Chain’s 100th class, and an exec liaison for the WOC Summit 2024. Off campus, I am going into my second year of working at the local elementary school. I’m excited to collaboratively plan this year’s WOC Summit and introduce new and curious topics of discussion for our community. I look forward to expanding our network as a team and as a campus-wide initiative!

Ruth Morban Mora

Ruth Morban Mora is a senior majoring in International Business and Management and minoring in Spanish. She is originally from the Dominican Republic, but currently lives in the Reading, PA area. Outside of academics, she is Social Media Chair for Latin American and Caribbean Club, a part of Women in Economics, Sisters of Color United, Latina Discussion Group, and serves and supports many organizations on campus focused on students of color on campus. In the past years, Ruth has served as the Women of Color Summit’s Marketing Executive and acts as a Mentor for this year’s summit committee. She values this experience as it creates a space for Women of Color to connect, grow and cherishes the mutual goal of the others a part of this collaboration. She looks forward to graduating a year early, expanding her network and making meaningful connections with others on campus and alumni!

Mireille Rebeiz

Mireille Rebeiz

(She/Her) Mireille Rebeiz is associate professor of Francophone & Middle Eastern Studies and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Dickinson College. She received her doctorate in Francophone Studies from Florida State University in 2012. She has a master’s in International Law and Human Rights from Université de Rouen in France, and a bachelor’s in law from Saint Joseph University in Lebanon. Her recent book, Gendering Civil War. Francophone Women’s Writing in Lebanon (Edinburgh University Press, 2022) examines French-language narratives published between the 1970s and the present day by Lebanese women writers focusing on the Lebanese civil war of 1975-1991. In addition, she has published several articles in French and English. Her teaching and research focus on women’s, gender, and sexuality issues in armed conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa. Currently, she is working on her second book on terrorism in Lebanon and finishing her second doctorate in international law at Penn State Dickinson Law. She identifies as Lebanese – American, Arab-American, and Middle Eastern. She has been a member and advisor to the Women of Color Summit since 2019.
