Dickinson Tops Comprehensive Sustainability Report Five Years Running
Dickinson Tops Sustainable Campus Index, Adding to Long List of Sustainability Accolades

Dickinson College has—for the fifth consecutive year—earned the top position among baccalaureate institutions in the prestigious Sustainable Campus Index, a publication of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). This is also the ninth consecutive year Dickinson has been recognized as a top performer.
“Sustainability is woven into every aspect of the Dickinson experience, from our academic programs to our daily operations and campus culture,” said Lindsey Lyons, executive director of the Center for Sustainability Education. “Advancing a more environmentally sound, socially just and resilient future is central to our mission, and we are honored to be recognized once again by AASHE for that commitment.”
The Sustainable Campus Index recognizes top-performing sustainable colleges and universities overall and in 13 impact areas, as measured through the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS®). Dickinson maintains a STARS Gold Rating.
“Top-performing colleges and universities like Dickinson demonstrate what is possible when sustainability is embedded into institutional priorities and translated into measurable action, helping raise the bar for higher education as a whole,” said AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser.
Dickinson’s sustainability efforts are often highlighted. The college is ranked #16 by the Princeton Review for “Green Matters: Everyone Cares About Conservation” and #23 in the Princeton Review’s Top 50 Green Colleges. Other sustainability achievements include being one of the first 10 colleges in the U.S. to reach carbon neutrality, being a certified Bee Campus and receiving a Bicycle Friendly University Gold designation from the League of American Bicyclists.
