What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

One of my first women's, gender & sexual studies classes! I knew almost immediately that my college career and eventually my postgrad life would incorporate WGSS in some way. Another experience that is particularly important to me was being tapped for Wheel & Chain, a senior women's honor society. I was so happy that my commitment to serving the Dickinson community and minority groups on campus was recognized.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

I would like to say that the education is more intensive, so I think that I am learning to tackle more than I previously thought I could handle. I am able to connect with my professors to understand the topic I am learning in depth. Furthermore, I am improving on being able to ask significant questions about the topic and what that indicates for various areas in society.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has provided me with the support and pre-professional experiences I needed to pursue graduate school and research. My professors have always challenged me at levels above and beyond what the curriculum requires. Dickinson has helped me financially over the summer as I was a recipient of Dickinson’s summer internship grant. My employments at the Trout Gallery, Popel Shaw Center for Race and Ethnicity, and Quantitative Reasoning Center have helped me develop countless skills and competencies.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has allowed me to explore my niche academic interests and have the freedom to pursue them across many of my classes, including my independent study experience. As I prepare to enter the teaching world, I feel as though I have a grasp of the educational issues most important to me and how I will address them in my own classroom to best serve my future students.

Natasha Stein

Graduate school: New York University
Field of study: mental health counseling and wellness

What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?

The most defining moments of my Dickinson experience were the research I had the opportunity to take part in, the lifelong friends I made, and my study abroad semester in Copenhagen, Denmark. One of my favorite in class research experiences was in my final semester in Professor Yust's PSYCH355 lab where we had the opportunity of conducting naturalistic observations at Dickinson's Children Center. It was such a unique hands-on experience that I will never forget. I also will never forget my wonderful semester abroad, where although I was not on Dickinson's campus, I felt so well prepared and comfortable in travels. It is also what inspired me to become a Global Ambassador and help others have the same experience I did.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson really helped me to build my communication skills and gave me the opportunity to learn from other disciplines in ways that would enhance my understanding of my major. I think learning through interdisciplinary education is incredibly important in not only educating an individual but also in solving real life problems. Dickinson has really molded me into valuing the thoughts and ideas of other disciplines.
