Annual 3.4-mile Bike Ride Promotes Cycling and Fosters Connections

Bicyclists of all ages are invited to join a community ride through Carlisle’s Northside neighborhood on Saturday, April 12.

The annual Northside Ride will begin with registration, free minor bike repairs and a complimentary breakfast at 9 a.m. at New Life Community Church, 64 E. North St., Carlisle. The 3.4-mile ride, open to all ages and abilities, will depart at 10:15 a.m.

The event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is required. Participants will conclude the ride at approximately 12:15 p.m. at Hope Station Carlisle, 149 W. Penn St., where participants will celebrate with a community ice cream social.

The Northside Ride aims to foster connections among residents and community organizations while promoting bicycle safety and the use of bicycles as a viable form of transportation within and beyond Carlisle. Free helmets, bike lights and bike locks will be provided to neighborhood riders who participate, courtesy of the Harrisburg Bicycle Club.

Participants are required to sign a waiver, and those under age 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult during the ride.

Cyclists are encouraged to gather at New Life Community/LifeCycle for the free breakfast, minor bike tune-ups, repairs and safety checks provided by the Handlebar, LifeCycle Carlisle and the Harrisburg Bicycle Club.

The ride will include waypoints at Dickinson, YWCA Carlisle & Cumberland County, Carlisle Tool Library, Heberlig Palmer Park, Project SHARE's farm stand and Hope Station. Each location will offer a bike-related activity or demonstration. The event is sponsored by Dickinson’s Center for Sustainability Education, emphasizing community partnerships.
