Leon Friebel ’25 (international business & management, quantitative economics) is using his love for football and his quantitative analysis skills to revolutionize the way the sport is coached.

A Red Devils wide receiver, Friebel has created an app that quantifies momentum in football, using an algorithm to track various factors to determine a team's momentum at any given point. This information can be used by coaches to make in-game adjustments and improve the team's chances of winning.

The app is still in development, but Friebel hopes to eventually make it available to coaches at all levels of football, believing that it could have the potential to change the way the game is played and coached.

“As a quantitative economics and business major, I really didn’t have a lot of knowledge about coding itself,” says Friebel, who hails from Aalen, Germany, “but I think especially the liberal arts education here gives you a lot of great opportunities to find new paths within your education.”
