Art & Art History Major Jobs and Scholarships 2024

 

There are too many! I studied abroad in Amman, Jordan, in fall 2022. It was a life-changing experience. I had the most incredible host family, and my language and cultural knowledge grew immensely through cuisine, music, dancing, friendships and traveling to places of cultural and historical significance. In May 2023, I had the opportunity to travel to Marrakesh, Morocco, with the National Security Language Initiative for Youth Alumni Travel Program. Although I originally participated in NSLI-Y in 2020, due to COVID, I was not able to go abroad. To make up for this experience, a group of 20 other alumni and I traveled to Marrakesh and participated in a cultural exchange. Culturally, linguistically and geographically, Morocco is completely different from Jordan, but it was still a beautiful and eye-opening experience.

 

Last summer (2023), I traveled to the Sultanate of Oman to study Arabic with the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center. In Oman, I was exposed to the Gulf, another completely different part of the Arab world, and strengthened my Arabic and made new friendships with locals. This past fall, I also a co-curated the Boundaries Imagined: Louisa Chase—Paintings, Drawings and Prints (1975-2003) exhibition for the art history senior seminar. My classmates and I worked with Professor of Art History Melinda Schlitt to curate a public exhibition that was open from February until April at the Trout Gallery. We also wrote individual catalogue essays that were published in an accompanying catalogue. This seminar was a unique experience for undergraduate art history students. The monthslong process of researching, writing my catalogue essays and curating the exhibition reflects all the skills I have accumulated through studying art history at Dickinson for four years and also taught me invaluable skills relating to curation and publication.
