How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has been instrumental in my personal and professional development, preparing me for unknown situations after graduating. Dickinson’s rigorous academic curriculum has given me a well-rounded education, emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving and practical communication skills. The small class sizes and close interactions with professors allowed me to articulate my ideas effectively. As a law & policy major specifically, I focused on analyzing legal issues while concentrating on advocacy and justice for various groups. The internship opportunities and extracurricular activities I’ve participated in allowed me to think about how my actions impact the world around me and prepared me for a role in project management. Although I’ll be working at a medical software company and have no experience in either of those fields, my liberal arts education has allowed me to embrace learning and think critically and strategically to solve problems. These skills are necessary for many fields, and I believe I am well positioned to enter the workforce because of my sustainable and globally focused education.

How has Dickinson prepared you for life after graduation?

Dickinson has allowed me to get to know my professors very well. My good connection with Associate Professor of Philosophy Jeff Engelhardt in his class, Philosophy of Race and Gender in Spring 2022 gave me a platform for my academic abilities to be recognized, which I believe contributed to being selected for the research assistant position. This experience gave me experience in research and writing, which I believe helped me secure my current parttime employment at the Aubrey Group. Beyond these experiences, Dickinson has shown me how to work with others with different perspectives and think critically.
