Dickinson's Red Devil Sports Network Launches a Student-run Podcast

Speak of the Devils Podcast

New podcast shines spotlight on Dickinson athletics

The Red Devils Sports Network (RDSN) recently launched a student-run podcast, Speak of the Devils, hosted by Dominic Fusco ’21 (international business & management), Sammy St. Jean ’22 (classical studies) and Sam Glavin ’22 (educational studies, English). Fusco and Glavin transitioned from their own personal podcast to a Dickinson athletics-focused podcast when they were approached by Justin Farrell, assistant athletic director of marketing & administration.

“Justin said he loved what I was doing with my personal podcast and asked if I would have time to be part of a larger setting hosted by RDSN. While it is hard work and a lot of prep goes into it, I have loved being able to connect further with the entire Dickinson community and talk Red Devil sports for a few hours a week,” said Fusco. “We felt like it was the perfect opportunity to launch it now since people, including ourselves, are not able to attend Red Devil sports in person and are disconnected from the news.”

Glavin, co-host of Speak of the Devils, added, “We started this podcast as a way to try to engage with the Dickinson community through these trying times of the pandemic. ... Both of my parents went to Dickinson and they've gotten some very encouraging messages from their former peers about how the show is going. That has been the biggest positive for me.”

“In the absence of Dickinson athletics over the past few months, what we hope to give the audience is a glimpse at just how meaningful the term 'Wearin’ the Red' is to anyone who has ever been involved with Dickinson athletics. The audience will hear from past and present student-athletes, coaches, trainers, assistants, and much more,” said Fusco.

The podcast is divided into three segments. The first focuses on currently active NCAA and professional sports. The second spotlights a player, coach, faculty member or alum to discussing their experiences at Dickinson and beyond, and the final segment features all three co-hosts.

"Our last segment is a fun little ending to the podcast where Sam does a top five of the week, Dominic talks about events of the prior week, and I have a hot take about an active sport,” explains St. Jean.

The students plan to continue the podcast through the spring semester. “If and when we are back on campus in the spring, we plan on continuing to release weekly episodes, mainly focusing on the sports that will be active and covering them,” said Fusco.

“Some plans we have in the future for the show are to continue bringing interviews, as they have been the hallmark segment of the shows. We've had coaches, players, and alums already on the show for interviews, and we've gotten incredible feedback on how these things are going,” said Glavin.
