Biology Major Jobs and Graduate School Acceptances 2020

 

Intern at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Including job shadowing surgeons, spending time with and taking care of patients in the critical care unit, as well as translating paper medical records to an online system.

I will be working with lead biologists to collect water samples, conduct population monitoring of fish species in the rivers and working in the lab to analyze samples.

 

 

Dickinson prepared me to stand up for what I believe in and to not let my voice go unheard. I think this is one of the most important things I will take from my time at Dickinson. I learned to voice my opinion, but also to listen to others' opinions intently because you can learn so much from your peers. I also think I am now prepared to look challenges in the face and work towards overcoming them. For example, having taken organic chemistry and come out the other side, hard work can get you through a lot as long as you are prepared to dedicate yourself to getting to the end of the tunnel.
   

 

I am incredibly excited to see where my life takes me, at this point I still don't know exactly what I want to do so I am looking forward to all of the experiences I will have that will lead me to a field I will continue with for my career.

 

One of the most defining moments of my time at Dickinson was during my fall semester of junior year when I realized I wanted to be a field biologist in the ecology field. This realization came to me when I was taking a class on invasive species with Visiting Instructor of Biology Gene Wingert, and I loved every lab session we had because I was truly enjoying what we were doing. Until I took that class, I had no idea what I wanted to do within my major. After that I tailored my courses to field biology, and I could not be happier with the direction my life is going now.
   
Another defining moment was, of course, studying abroad, that experience truly taught me that I could handle so much more than I ever thought I could. From navigating a new city to speaking a second language, I was challenged constantly but I found myself rising to each challenge put in front of me, and those were the moments I realized what I was capable of. I'm not sure I would have the confidence in myself I have today without this experience.
