The application process for Resident Advisors, House & Apartment Managers, and Community advisors is now LIVE. This webpage contains important information about the application process.

The primary selection process occurs during the spring semester for the next academic year - we are currently taking applications for the 2024-2025 academic year!

INFORMATION SESSIONS

Come hear from current RAs and HAMs about their experience working with Residence Life!

Information Sessions provide an overview of each role, responsibilities, and important dates and deadlines. UPDATE: Information sessions are no longer a requirement to apply to join the Residence Life student staff for 2024-2025.

Information Session Dates and Times:

  • Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 at 7:00pm – Althouse 201
  • Monday, February 5th, 2024 at 12:00pm – Althouse 201

NEW APPLICANTS

Resident Advisor (RA) and House and Apartment Managers (HAM) Candidates

Our student staff, HAMs and RAs, play an integral role within Residence Life & Housing. Students selected to assume these important leadership roles will have significant, focused responsibility for residential life in an assigned area. RAs and HAMs are enthusiastic students and leaders who have a direct influence on campus culture and develop valuable leadership skills such as communication, building rapport, and managing conflict while making a substantive contribution to the campus community. 

The recruitment & selection process for new student staff starts in December and will continue during the spring semester. The selection process is designed to help applicants get to know new people, learn about themselves, and gain important skills.  To apply, candidates participate in a selection process that includes:

  • Completing an online application and providing one reference. 
  • Attend an individual interview which will take place the last two weeks in February.

Timeline 

  • Applications go live on December 1, 2023!
  • Student staff (RA and HAM) applications due by February 11, 2024
  • RA/HAM references due - Friday, February 16, 2024
  • Individual Interviews for RA/HAM Candidates - Scheduled between February 19th-March 1st, 2024
  • Offers will be sent out via email in mid-to-late March

Qualifications to Apply

  • RA applicants must be a currently enrolled full-time student who is rising sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • HAM applicants must be a currently enrolled full-time student who is a rising junior or senior.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated exemplary personal conduct in accordance with the Community Standards. 
  • Students currently on stayed suspension or suspension will not be considered for the position.
  • Repeated behavioral or conduct related issues may also result in candidates being removed from the selection process.
  • Willingness to give priority commitment to the RA or HAM position.

Position Requirements

  • Maintain a 2.75 or higher semester and cumulative GPA throughout the course of employment.
  • Must return early for both fall and spring academic terms for Student Staff training and are expected to stay on campus until residence halls close for the semester.  
  • Maintain exemplary personal conduct in accordance with the Community Standards.
  • Assist in necessary aspects of the Residence Life & Housing program including opening, closing, health & safety inspections, as well as roommate agreements.
  • RAs will participate in an on-call rotation with fellow Residence Life staff members.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled at Dickinson College to be eligible to apply.
  • Priority is given to candidates applying for the full academic year.

RETURNING STAFF MEMBERS

Resident Advisors (RA) & House and Apartments Managers (HAM)

Students who have worked for Residence Life & Housing as an RA or HAM are eligible to return to staff pending satisfactory job performance and a successful returning staff interview. Returning staff interviews will occur between February 19th-March 1st, 2024.

Timeline 

  • Applications go live on December 1st, 2023
  • Returning RA/HAM applications due by February 11th, 2024
  • Returning staff interviews will occur between February 19th-March 1st, 2024
  • Offers will be sent via email early-to-mid March

Documents Needed to Apply

Community Advisor (CA)

Community Advisors lead a staff of RAs or HAMs in building a successful team dynamic and community among a residential area on campus. CAs are expected to be in good-standing with college and demonstrate exemplary behavior and leadership to their staff and their community.

Timeline 

  • Applications go live on December 1st, 2023
  • CA applications due by February 7th, 2024
  • Individual Interviews for CA Candidates will occur on February 15th &16th, 2024
  • Offers will be sent via email early-to-mid March

Qualifications to Apply

  • CA applicants must be a currently enrolled full-time student who is a rising junior or senior.
  • At least one year prior experience as an RA or HAM
  • Exemplary personal conduct in accordance with the Community Standards.
  • Willingness to give priority commitment to CA role

Position Requirements

  • Maintain a 2.75 or higher semester and cumulative GPA throughout the course of employment.
  • Must return early for both fall and spring academic terms for Student Staff training and are expected to stay on campus until residence halls close for the semester.  
  • Priority is given to candidates applying for the full academic year.
