The Writing Program is dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive collaborative writing space at Dickinson where:
- writers’ identities are valued;
- writers’ cultural and linguistic practices are taken into account;
- writers’ ideas are encouraged to be expressed, heard, engaged with, and respectfully challenged.
The Writing Program supports the writing culture of the college through First-Year Seminars (FYS) and Writing in the Discipline (WID) courses. Student writers can find support in the Norman M. Eberly Multilingual Writing Center (MWC), whose mission is to support writers from all disciplines and of all levels and abilities as they develop their writing processes and increase their repertoire of writing skills; all writers are welcome to request a peer writing partner through the MWC's Writing Studio program.
Students may also seek employment in the MWC as trained peer writing tutors and as Writing Associates attached to FYS or WID courses. Interviews for positions in the Writing Center are offered in October, and employment in the MWC is contingent on successful completion of WRPG 214: Working with Writers in the spring semester.
The Writing Program provides faculty support in writing pedagogy through the Writing Associates program, ongoing faculty development, and the annual Faculty Learning Community in Writing.
