Dickinson College Updates on the Coronavirus

Week of March 30, 2020

Room and board refunds

Sent: April 3, 2020

Audience: Seniors

Dear students and families,

We understand this is a challenging time for everyone and deeply appreciate your understanding and support.

We are in the final stages of processing credits for the unused portion of room and board for the spring semester. We expect to apply credits to student accounts during the week of April 6, after all March charges and other adjustments have been posted. Seniors will no longer have the ability to charge on their Dickinson ID after credits have been processed. Refunds for credit balances will be paid to students by mid-April and will be reflected on the revised April bill.

The proration of room and board will not affect your current financial aid package for the spring semester. You may contact financial aid at finaid@dickinson.edu to evaluate any additional loan eligibility to cover outstanding expenses related to the completion of the semester.

Because several parents have reached out to us offering to donate any refunds they may be eligible for, we thought it might be helpful to share that information more broadly. There are two options if you would like to donate your room and board refund. If you email stuaccts@dickinson.edu before April 6, Dickinson can retain the refund and send you a gift acknowledgement letter for your records. If you receive your refund and want to donate it at that time, you can make a gift online or contact giving@dickinson.edu for other ways to give.

Please contact Student Accounts at stuaccts@dickinson.edu with any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Sally Heckendorn
Bursar

Campus Update

To Dickinson Employees:

I hope you and your families are all staying safe and adhering to the CDC guidelines, as well as to the instructions from your state health departments and local municipalities. You are all in my thoughts as we live through a pandemic that is causing us all so much disruption, anxiety and sadness.

It’s important to remember that this is temporary. This will go on for some time, but it will not go on forever. It may be helpful to remember that almost everyone who falls ill will recover; this is already happening here in this country as it is abroad. That fact, however, does not erase our grief for those who will be lost.

There will come a time when we are all together again. In the meantime, all of us must do our part to help our loved ones and our neighbors to stay healthy. We all must help stop the spread of this virus.

I know that Dickinson will get through this challenge, just as it has emerged from other challenges in the past 237 years. We will need all of you to help us to do this. As we move through the end of the semester in this unprecedented time, I ask all departments to dramatically curtail all but absolutely necessary—let me repeat that—absolutely necessaryspending. As you know, this situation is having a serious impact on our financial resources, and we have committed to pay all staff through June 30. By curtailing all but vital spending, you will support those efforts. Please check with your vice president if you have questions about an expense.

As a reminder, we have compiled a set of employee FAQs that includes helpful information during this time. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your supervisor or hrservices@dickinson.edu.

Sincerely,

Margee M. Ensign
President
