Dickinson College Updates on the Coronavirus

Week of February 10, 2020

CAMPUS UPDATE

Sent: February 10, 2020 2:50 PM

To the Dickinson community:

As you may recall, I emailed last week to tell you that four of our students who had traveled from China had to be quarantined until they had been in the United States for 14 days. Those students are now past the 14-day mark and remain symptom free. I thank them for their cooperation during this time. I also want to make clear that no student on our campus has exhibited symptoms of coronavirus.

The college was directed to take these steps with these students as a purely precautionary measure. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are monitoring an outbreak of a respiratory illness termed “2019-nCoV.” The new virus is a coronavirus, which is a family of viruses that includes the common cold and was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.

We extend our compassion and concern to our students due to the impact the virus and measures taken to stop it may be having on them and their loved ones.

Please continue to observe the following precautions to prevent the spread of all communicable illnesses: wash your hands often, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, decrease stress and limit or eliminate the use of tobacco products.

Sincerely,

George Stroud
Vice President for Student Life
