Alexandra fosbury 100x150 admissions counselor bio photoWelcome! As an alumna of Dickinson and an Admissions Associate for the Lancaster, Berks, Chester, York, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties of Pennsylvania, I am excited to get to know you!

WHY DICKINSON?

Originally from the Bay Area in Northern California, I initially found Dickinson with my mom through a Google search. I distinctly remember typing in “Small liberal arts colleges with the best language programs” and “Small liberal arts college top Fulbright and Peace Corps”. At the time, I was deeply interested in languages (particularly Spanish) and I wanted a college that valued a global education with the skillset to actively communicate with our globalized world. After a long trek out to central Pennsylvania, I was finally able to visit campus and, as cliché as it sounds, I instantly felt comfortable and at home. The strong sense of community combined with the rigor and commitment to a truly holistic education confirmed my excitement about becoming a Dickinsonian.

During my four years I was fortunate enough to work with passionate, dedicated faculty as I pursued my philosophy and political science double major and Spanish minor (while also getting the chance to take Italian and Arabic!). While I had never anticipated majoring in philosophy, let alone writing and defending a thesis, Dickinson allowed me to explore a variety of avenues both in and outside of the classroom. I also spent three years as an Admissions volunteer as a student interviewer, Liberty Cap (tour guide), and an intern (so my return to Admissions is not at all shocking). While the institution itself is incredible, it is truly the students, faculty, and staff at Dickinson that make it so special (and is the reason I was so excited to return to campus after a short 3-month hiatus). I will not be sticking around Carlisle for too long, however, as I did receive a Fulbright and will be teaching English in Argentina for 8 months!

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

Favorite Spot on campus: My tour guide answer would have to be either Morgan Field during the summer or springtime or the quiet section of the first floor of the library with the floor to ceiling windows. However, I am also deeply attached to The Dickinsonian office because I was an editor for our student newspaper all four years of college (I promise even though there are no windows is it a very peaceful space!)

Favorite Dickinson Tradition: This may not count as a tradition, but I love our yearly Cafsgiving. This is a grand, delicious Thanksgiving meal we hold in our dining hall every year right and it is laid out as a giant, family-style dinner with the entire student body! I always feel so connected to the entirety of Dickinson during shared moments like that. Plus, we have an entire separate hall dedicated to Thanksgiving dessert!

Leo’s or Massey’s?: There is no wrong answer! (There is. Leo’s is superior, there is a never a night I am not craving their Cornbread or Raspberry ice cream!)

Please do not hesitate to contact me at fosburya@dickinson.edu if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

All the best,
