What are some of the defining moments of Samantha’s Dickinson experience? “Studying abroad in Norwich during my junior year really helped to shape my final year at Dickinson,” she says. “It gave me confidence in myself and my ability to adapt to new circumstances, and also helped me to develop the idea for my senior English thesis. During my senior year, my capstones in history and English gave me excellent experience in creating and executing long-term research projects and allowed me to work closely with other majors.”

What are some of the defining moments of Siobhan’s Dickinson Experience? “One of the most defining moments of my Dickinson experience was my introduction to biological anthropology with Professor Karen Weinstein,” she says. “Although I already knew that I wanted to pursue biological anthropology, I had not had the opportunity to actually take a class on the subject before coming to Dickinson.”

What are some of the defining moments of Alexander’s Dickinson experience? “My first-year seminar with Professor Amy Wlodarsk,” he says. “Starting out in a learning community of diverse individuals who all shared a common interest in music was a truly unique experience for which I am grateful. I have remained friends with many of the other students from my learning community for my entire college career. Additionally, working in the writing center provided me with useful work experience as a tutor and introduced me to a group of students and faculty who were integral to my development at Dickinson.”

What are some of the defining moments of Christina’s Dickinson experience? “Some of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had at Dickinson happened in my first-year seminar learning community. I also really enjoyed being a part of the Dickinson College choir, as well as being president of the D-Tones for more than a year,” she says. “My experiences with DTG have been amazing and I’m so glad that I was able to be a part of such a wonderful group of people and dance professors.”

How has Dickinson prepared Caryn for Life Beyond the Limestone? “Although I majored in environmental studies and Spanish, I also had the opportunity to take courses in a range of other fields, from history to fine arts and ethics. Dickinson never stopped challenging me to broaden my horizons; to consider an issue from various perspectives; and to understand viewpoints that differ from my own,” she says. “I feel prepared to be a dedicated member of my local community with a global and interdisciplinary mindset. For that reason, I consider Dickinson’s liberal-arts education to be invaluable.”

Angel has been accepted to Stanford’s Inter-University Center (IUC) for Japanese Language Studies. The 10-month immersion program in Yokohama, Japan, is intended for students who are embarking on careers in Japanese studies or a profession in which fluent Japanese is necessary. Before entering the program this fall, Angel will complete a summer finance internship with OMAM (formerly known as Old Mutual) in Boston.

What are some of the defining moments of Mansoor’s Dickinson experience? “One of the many reasons I selected Dickinson was for the faculty-to-student ratio. I will forever remember and be in touch with my professors and colleagues,” says Mansoor. “I also was lucky to be a part of the cancer-research lab in the biology department and I’m thankful to the music department, which saw my passion for music and helped me to bring it forward through concert performances and instrument lessons. Dickinson made my first four years in the U.S. a blessing.”

How has Dickinson prepared Lexie for Life Beyond the Limestone? “Throughout my four years at Dickinson, I’ve been able to develop a passion for sustainable food systems—a topic that I was not familiar with until I came to college,” she says. “I have been able to fully immerse myself in food-systems work through academic courses, extracurricular activities and off-campus opportunities. The design of the environmental-science major has been particularly advantageous to my interests because it requires students to pick an overall theme that they are interested in and take a number of classes that relate to that idea. I am especially grateful for my experiences at Dickinson because both of the programs that I will participate in at Tufts require several years of related experience in the field as a prerequisite.”

What are some of the defining moments of Lexie’s Dickinson Experience? “Becoming involved in SISA helped me find my passion at Dickinson and in my life after I graduate,” she says. “Also, living in the Treehouse has made sustainable living second nature, while also making me conscious of how all of my decisions impact the environment and society at large. I am extremely appreciative of the conversations that I have been a part of in our living room at the Treehouse, as well as dinner with president Roseman, breakfast with James Balog and Bill McKibben, an afternoon discussion with Lisa Jackson, and many other meals with students, staff and faculty.”

What are some of the defining moments of Kirsten’s Dickinson experience? “Sitting for an hour catching up with one of my favorite professors and discussing issues we were both passionate about was often a highlight of my week and would always energize me,” she says, adding, “Most of my philosophy classes had less than 10 people. Instead of listening to a lecture and taking notes, we discussed and critiqued the arguments in the reading and related the arguments to our own experience. A lot of time was also spent voicing our own opinions, trying to clarify our opinions to others and providing logical critiques of our classmates' comments. Such discussions would usually continue after class was technically over, but no one ever seemed to mind. I never felt more like a college student than when I was in one of those classes.”
