Making the Syllabus do the Right Work -- Kevin Gannon

October 23, 2026

This session is an invitation to rethink the syllabus—on both the course and departmental/institutional levels.

All too often, the course syllabus is more of a lost opportunity than useful course document. We lament that students never read it, but it’s worth asking: is the syllabus worth reading? What should it do? What should it not do? How do we keep it from bloating to double-digit page lengths? We have the opportunity to use the syllabus to do important work in creating effective, meaningful learning spaces, and this session will offer specific strategies and approaches for doing so. Attendees are requested to bring a copy of a current course syllabus to the workshop. Please register here: Making the Syllabus Do the Right Work – Fill out form
