Join us for an evening of song performed by Dickinson music faculty and moderated discussion between John Dickinson scholar Jane Calvert and Jeff Rosen of the National Constitution Center.
The discussion will focus on John Dickinson and his pivotal role in our founding documents. Readings from Calvert’s award-winning book Penman of the Founding: A biography of John Dickinson will highlight and prompt discussion of new research contributing to a more rounded understanding of Dickinson's vital influence on early American resistance through his Letters to a Farmer, America's first popular song, “The Liberty Song,” and much more. Invoking our school motto, we aim to collectively understand more of Dickinson’s progressive stance and advocacy for civil disobedience, the abolition of slavery and his fighting for rights for women, Native Americans and the poor. The evening will be followed by a reception and book-signing with Calvert.
