Join the WGRC and WGSS Department co-hosts of a talk by Art & Art History Professor Ty Vanover entitled, “Queer German Art: from the ‘Third Sex’ to the Third Reich.”
Dr. Vanover explores how artworks shaped queer identities and subcultures in Germany following the birth of the term, “homosexual” in 1869. He will also share new research on queer artists in the Third Reich, shining light on often-overlooked histories of both complicity with and resistance to the Nazi regime.
This monthly series is intended to showcase faculty and staff research in any discipline that is grounded in intersectional feminist scholarship, engages questions of gender, sex, and sexuality, or is otherwise connected to the social justice vision that animates the intersectional dimensions of Gender Studies and Sexuality Studies. Lunch will be served, no rsvp necessary. Questions can be directed to schweigk@dickinson.edu.
