Join Arabic Club and the Arabic Activities Program for a film screening of "Mosul" (2020).
This Arabic-language, American-made film follows a day in the life of a young Iraqi policeman, Kawa, who lives in the Iraqi city of Mosul while it is under ISIS occupation. After Kawa's life is saved by a local SWAT unit whose mission is to combat ISIS, he joins the group that saved him. The SWAT unit is made up of local men who, like Kawa, have all either been injured or had a family member killed by ISIS. The film has been praised for dropping viewers "right in the center of urban warfare, [while allowing] for telling moments that reveal the men beyond their combat roles. A rare American film designed to bring Iraqi perspectives forward, Mosul is both muscular and humane." (quotation from IMBd).
Sponsored by the Arabic Club and the Arabic Activities Program. Snacks will be provided.
