The Creative Writing department celebrates the publication of Professor Adrienne Su’s essay collection, "Hot, Sour, Salty, Sweet."
The essays meditate on reading and writing as well as eating and cooking, sometimes in the same piece. They discuss ethical eating, writing with and without rhyme, the persona created by a writer’s body of work, and poets who have influenced the author. Professor Su will read a few excerpts from the book, followed by a Q&A and refreshments.
Adrienne Su has published five books of poems, most recently Living Quarters (2015) and Peach State (2021). Her awards include a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, residencies at Yaddo and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and six appearances in The Best American Poetry. As poet-in-residence at Dickinson, she teaches introductory fiction and poetry writing, advanced poetry writing, and the creative nonfiction course “Writing about Food.”
