In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we present a musical appreciation of the history of the nuevo tango.
Astor Piazzolla was an Argentine composer and virtuoso bandoneon player known for revolutionizing the tango. By fusing elements of classical and jazz into traditional tango music, he created a new style, the nuevo tango. He has since been described as the world’s foremost composer of tango music.
In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, con brio! (Shaughn Dowd, flute; Jihoon Chang, clarinet and saxophone; Russell Wilson, piano and accordion; and Kevin Thompson, bass) will bring us the progression of this beautiful and exciting art form, featuring Piazzolla’s “Histoire du Tango," "Primavera Portena" and the haunting melodies of “Oblivion” and “Adiós Nonino."
This concert is sponsored by the Truman and Beth Bullard Music and Culture Series.
